Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List

Welcome to the crazy and cooky world of Kathy Griffin, the D-List celebrity everyone knows as "that red-head chick." Despite living a life of low-celeb status, where she assists in judging a drag queen beauty pageant, attempts to recruit celebrities to come to her annual Toys for Tots fundraiser, tries to get a free sofa for her in-the-works A-List house, and "bombs" with her raunchy comedy at a stuffy charity dinner, Kathy gets all of the support she needs from her parents, her husband, her wonderful assistant, her two "best gays," and her live-in gay visionary, Mike, who is designing Kathys house for next-to-free in exchange for the publicity that will come with the house. Kathys life proves that you dont need to be Nicole Kidman in order to enjoy yourself.

Kathy and Matt go on the publicity train by doing a nation-wide tour for Kathys new comedy DVD, titled Allegedly. On the tour, Star Jones inadvertantly disses her on The View, John McEnroe butchers her name on his talk show (which is cancelled shortly after Kathy appears), no one shows up to her hyped DVD signings, and Jay Leno calls her ugly on air, which really breaks Kathys heart and deflates her already-low ego. I guess thats what happens when youre on the D-List.

Kathy receives an unexpected surprise from one of Hollywoods top A-Listers: Renee Zelwegger. After putting the flowers in a vase, Kathy starts thinking about what she did to deserve the roses. Then she starts thinking about her past acts and realizes that shes called Renee a "sweaty, puffy, coke whore" before. Are the flowers a silent warning? Or a sign that Mrs. Zelweggar has a good sense of humor? Kathy puts that question on the back burner as she goes to Houston, Texas to shoot a bit part in a movie, where Kathy plays a she-Elvis, as well as do a breif radio tour publicizing her standup act in the city. Throughout her trip, Kathy caves under the pressure of what Renees flowers mean, and finally realizes that Zelweggars got her beat.

Kathy addresses her breakup with husband Matt, goes on a “Red State” stand-up tour and auctions off a weekend stay for one at her house for charity. She also finds time to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and “The Tyra Banks Show.”

With fellow comic Michael McDonald and actress Karri Turner in tow, Kathy departs for Iraq to perform for the troops. While Michael ends up wowing the audience of soldiers, Kathy does not, at least at first. Also, Kathy discovers that military-issue food might be good for her figure.

Kathy tries to tame her badly-behaved puppy Pom-Pom before they both take to the catwalk in a dog-and-owner fashion show for charity called Paws for Style. Meanwhile, she also redesigns a suite in a sleek San Francisco hotel, teaches a class for aspiring comedians and works a private corporate event.

Life is busier than ever for Kathy since last season, and shes hired two more assistants, Tom and Tiffany, to help her keep up with the pace. Some of her upcoming events include a visit to the ladies of The View (which goes much better than last time thanks to Stars departure), a gig hosting a corporate film for Redken sales reps, and most importantly--a sold out show at Carnegie Hall! But not all of Kathys recent changes have been pleasant...she and Matt Moline are now officially divorced, and shes not sure shes ready to face the world alone.

Kathy is ready to set out on Rosie ODonnells lesbian cruise, but soon realizes that she must adjust her comedic material to captivate the lesbian audience. To do so, she enlists assistance from "Work Out" star Jackie Warner. However, and to her dismay, Kathys comedy is not her only impediment, as she receives horrible news that may shake the entire course of her life from this point forward.

Kathy gears up to host a gay adult-video awards gala. She also prepares to perform her comedy act in front of prisoners at a state penitentiary in Arizona.

In the third-season finale, Kathy scores an award from Irish America magazine. The recognition inspires Kathy to connect with her Irish roots, so she journeys with her posse to Dublin, where she offers a sweet gesture in memory of her father.

Kathys determination to get a Grammy nomination has paid off, but she wont rest until she has won the award. Kathy starts calling round previous winners in an effort to secure their votes. She ends up heading to Canada where she speaks to Lily Tomlin.

Kathy realizes that to appeal to the younger generation, she needs to brush shoulders with young Hollywood stars. She lands a spot on a teen drama and spends the day with Paris Hilton, while she allows her mom to set up her Facebook page for her.

Kathy is looking for a second home and Star Island seems to be the perfect location. Kathy meets up with some fellow celebrities and also works in a hotel.

Kathy joins in the protest for gay rights as she travels to Sacramento. She meets up with Melissa Etheridge who has a new nickname for her.

Kathy visits Suzanne Somers home and gets a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.

Kathy takes part in judging a toddler pageant where she adds her own artistic touch, and she also has her home remodeled.

Kathys in need of a better cash flow so she decides to capitalize on her mothers growing fame. She has a range of ideas and needs help from Suze Orman in order to get things off the ground.

Kathy hopes that having a public Pap smear that it will help raise awareness of womens health. She wants more people to know about her upcoming gig so begins publicity for it and meets up with Joy Behar.

To make it up to Maggie after swearing on CNN, Kathy organizes a talent show for the residents of Maggies retirement community. The show goes well despite the late arrival by Cloris Leachman and Kathy performs "You Made Me Love You" with re-written lyrics in Maggies honor.
