Switched at Birth

In the series premiere of this drama, a hospital error that involved sending two newborns home with the wrong families is uncovered years later, when the girls are teenagers. The girls went on to lead very different lives: Artistic Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano) grew up in a world of privilege, while athletic Daphne Vasquez (Katie Lecleric) was raised by a single mother and contracted an illness that left her deaf at a young age.

Bay becomes curious about her birth father. Meanwhile, Kathryn deals with her nosy neighbors; and John takes an interest in Daphnes basketball games and meets Melody (Marlee Matlin), a friend of Reginas who works at Daphnes school.

Kathryn and John insist on having Ty over for dinner after they learn that Bay has been seeing him secretly. Elsewhere, Toby asks Daphne and Emmett to help him win a poker game, which puts Daphne in an uncomfortable position.

Bay believes shes uncovered her birth fathers identity online, so she asks Daphne and Emmett to accompany her when she meets him. Meanwhile, John and Kathryn suspect Regina is to blame for the hospitals recent actions regarding their lawsuit.

Bay and Daphne receive cars from John and Kathryn on their birthday, but Daphne is uncomfortable accepting such a lavish present. Meanwhile, Regina stops hiding out at Melodys place; and Bay and Emmetts secret romance continues to flourish.

Daphne follows Emmett to a music festival, hoping to get some private time with him. Elsewhere, John requests that Regina be present when Bay sees Angelo again; and Kathryn secretly talks to a nurse who could assist in the lawsuit against the hospital.

Melody attributes Emmetts troublemaking behavior to Bay. Elsewhere, Regina becomes Angelos business partner; Daphnes displeased with her basketball coach; and Kathryn and John face a possible setback in their lawsuit because of their lawyer.

Angelo attends a dinner at the Kennishs home. Meanwhile, Bay helps Emmett move into his dads place, where they meet his fathers girlfriend; and Daphne and Wilke go out on a date.

Emmett photographs Bay and Daphnes blended family for a school assignment. Meanwhile, Regina gets acquainted with an art-gallery owner; Daphne questions Simones trustworthiness; and Bay and Emmett divulge their true feelings to each other.

Daphne is unsure about her romance with Wilke, and then she meets a confrontational new student at school. Meanwhile, Emmett isnt happy to learn that Bay is still in contact with Ty, who may have been injured in Afghanistan.

Bay and Daphne arrange an ASL zombie movie shoot for Emmetts birthday. Meanwhile, Emmett wrestles with whether to tell Bay about his betrayal; and Regina has doubts about assisting with Kathryns book.

Bay returns from a trip abroad with a new boyfriend, but she must face issues from her past concerning Emmett and Angelo. Meanwhile, Daphne seeks employment help from Kathryn; and Regina impulsively makes a big decision.

Daphne causes a huge mishap at the restaurant, and she grows closer with her boss in the aftermath. Elsewhere, Bay manipulates a situation with her two dads to get what she wants; and Kathryn is envious of the attention an interviewer showers on Regina.

Daphne struggles to decipher Jeffs signals. Elsewhere, Bay and Zarra try to find out whos ruining their street art.

The trial involving the hospitals error gets under way. Meanwhile, Bay tries to return the cash she secretly took from John; Daphne and Jeffs relationship encounters obstacles; and Toby starts a new band.

In the second-season opener, a newly wealthy Angelo buys expensive presents for everyone. Meanwhile, John and Kathryn contemplate entering the political arena; Bay faces cheating accusations; and Daphne lands in hot water because of Jeff.

Melody hosts a tolerance retreat after tension builds between the hearing and deaf students at Carlton. Elsewhere, Kathryns remarks during a radio interview may jeopardize Johns campaign; and Regina gets some alarming health news.

Daphne feels uncomfortable around Travis; Kathryn tries to get closer to Bay by volunteering to work at Carlton.

Regina returns from rehab early to spend time with Daphne, who has bonded with her biological parents while Regina was away. Meanwhile, Bay runs into Ty; Travis proves to be a bad influence on Emmett; and Kathryn and Nikki dont see eye to eye.

Toby and Nikkis relationship is strained by work and wedding planning, so Bay tries to help Toby find a release by booking a gig for his band. Meanwhile, Regina and Bays messiness irks Angelo; and Jace introduces Daphne to a new adventure.

A look at what would have happened if Regina had revealed the switch when she first uncovered it finds both girls being raised by the Kennishes: Daphne has a cochlear implant and is spoiled and manipulative, while Bays a top scholar who overcompensates.

Angelos relationship with Bay is tested as he fights for custody of his infant daughter. Elsewhere, Daphne and Jace stumble onto a possible political scandal; Nikki learns that Tobys reconnected with Simone; and Emmett sets up a blind date for his mom.

Ty and Bay embark on a camping trip. Elsewhere, John continues to show Regina his gratitude; Nikki questions her mother about her fathers past; and Parkers distressing news causes Daphne to become more frustrated with Jace.

Toby prepares for his wedding, and his parents contemplate being truthful with him. Meanwhile, Bay seeks a long-distance romance with Ty in the face of his redeployment; and Daphne is forced to own up to her mistakes.

Bay strives to impress her art teacher while she struggles with her commitment to field hockey. Elsewhere, Campbell assists Daphne when she makes an error at the clinic; Kathryn invites Renzo home for dinner; and Emmett investigates a vandalism problem.

Daphne searches for a patient she accidentally let leave. Meanwhile, Bay discovers that Emmett is dating again; Jorge wants Daphne to accompany him to a family gathering; and Regina and Angelo have a discussion about business.

Daphne plans a birthday bash for Campbell. Meanwhile, Kathryn hosts a murder-mystery party, where she and John uncover surprises about one another; and Bay wants to score an invite to Tanks fraternity luau.

Emmett gets surprising news at his dads housewarming. Meanwhile, Travis meets his hero, football star Derrick Coleman; and Regina persuades Daphne to go out for a Latina college scholarship.

The Kennish and Vasquez families rally to support a loved one who is in critical condition. Amid the emotion, blame is placed, decisions must be made and lives are forever changed.

As the Kennish and Vasquez families prepare to celebrate Christmas in their traditional ways, Bay and Daphne find themselves living each others lives as if the switch never happened on an all-new holiday-themed episode.

Meanwhile, Regina is shocked by Eric’s reaction to a buyout offer on the coffeeshop.

In the wake of her breakup with Emmett, Bay decides to refocus her energy on school and signs up for a Spanish class, only to discover that the new harassment policy has put her in the spotlight. Daphne learns that her D in Chemistry will affect her scholarship. John finds himself under serious financial strain as Kathryn makes plans to produce her musical herself. Meanwhile, Daphne and Mingo have a major difference of opinion that leaves Daphne with doubts about their compatibility.

The news about Regina moving out from the guest house is a big discovery on its own, but it’s definitely not the only one. As Kathryn and John discuss the future of their finances, they stumble upon the idea of endorsing products. Daphne joins an ambulance ride-along so that she can become her dorm’s safety captain. Meanwhile, the reminder of Angelo’s upcoming birthday only creates more tension.

Daphne and Mingo decide to introduce their parents at the Kennishes’ grill night, only to find Mingo’s father is the business manager John blames for his current financial problems. Bay has an awkward run in with Tank at the restaurant where he works.

Daphne’s correspondence with Quinn starts to affect her relationship with Mingo.

Bay is excited to hold her first art show. Daphne interviews for an internship that would bring her closer to Quinn, causing friction with Mingo.

After a photo of Daphne and Mingo dressed up as their favorite singers at a college costume party goes viral, the pair find themselves caught up in a controversy that escalates into a discussion of race relations and free speech. Bay seeks a job at the tattoo parlor in town. Kathryn and John court a new shortstop for the UMKC baseball team, while Regina and Luca work on a class project together.

Daphne and Sharee are horrified to stumble upon a racist display at the Black Student Union on campus. When the perpetrators are given minimal punishment, Iris starts a hunger strike in protest. Daphne receives an anonymous threat and Sharee grows frustrated with how the school is handling the situation. Emmett invites Bay to help him with an art project, causing friction with Travis who’s already upset that John seems ready to replace him on the baseball team.

Daphne takes a volunteer job at a clinic for extra credit and comes face-to-face with her old mentor, Dr. Jackson. While eager to mend fences with him, she grows alarmed when it becomes obvious he’s having trouble properly treating his patients. Mingo leads the annual “Kangaroo Krawl,” but Daphne sees his foolhardy behavior as a reaction to the regretful costume party incident. Bay finds Noelle is plagiarizing her work and uses the discovery to negotiate her own chair. John and Kathryn make an effort to rekindle their romance. Regina is put in a precarious situation when she decides to expand her business.

Needing to pay their electric bill, Bay and Daphne throw a “lights on” party at their apartment above the Cracked Mug but things go awry when Toby overhears two students making disability jokes. Toby and Bay’s high school frenemy Simone turns up looking glamorous and successful. Meanwhile, as Daphne and Chris get to know each other better, she starts to suspect that he’s hiding a big secret. Kathryn and Regina do some old-school snooping on Luca after Regina sees a questionable text on his phone.

Kathryn becomes nostalgic when she realizes that it’s been five years since the switch was discovered and the two families started living together. As she searches for memories, Kathryn discovers a long buried family secret – stretching all the way back to the switch – that changes everything. Daphne competes against Mingo for a six-week paid internship in sports medicine. Bay is celebrated for her tattoo work in a magazine spread, but her struggle to prove herself as an artist to John threatens to destroy their relationship. Toby meets Amelia, a young woman with Down Syndrome who changes his perception about his son’s future. Melody, Emmett and Travis make some major decisions about their lives, and Regina takes a chance on love.
