Razor-sharp, meticulous attorney Margaret Wright hires her talented but scruffy, aimless son, Todd, as her law firms in-house investigator

When Todd reunites with a childhood friend with a checkered past, he convinces Margaret to represent him in a minor legal case.

Margaret attempts to join an elite philanthropy club and must represent a former club employee accused of using the organization to smuggle drugs. Also, Todd goes undercover as a waiter at the elite club to get information to help Margaret’s case.

When Margaret is disappointed that no one but Todd can attend her family Thanksgiving dinner, Todd tries to convince his brother, Lawrence, to come home. Also, Margarets family inadvertently helps her crack a case involving an injured bank teller and robbery.

Margaret asks Todd for help on a seemingly straight forward wrongful termination case over a dating app, but with Todd’s investigation they quickly realize it’s much more complicated. Also, tensions between Margaret and Gus simmer as they come across each other on a dating app.

When Todd agrees to help Susan’s fiancé locate a missing employee, he stumbles into a case Margaret agreed to co-counsel with Gus. Margaret and Todd realize their cases are converging and a firewall is put into place to prevent them from communicating with each other.

Margaret represents a gifted 17-year-old hacker charged with releasing classified defense documents and faces off against her college nemesis; Todd is tasked with babysitting the teen hacker for the duration of the trial.

Margaret helps a client who lost his mother during a routine surgery at Allison’s hospital, performed by her colleague Dr. Ross Woods. Also, Margaret and Gus go on their first date and Todd is asked by the firm to investigate Gus.

Margaret represents Lauren, Susan’s good friend, in a hostile work environment lawsuit after she quits her job at a Michelin-starred restaurant, but it unexpectedly turns into a murder trial when the head chef is found dead. Also, when Todd gets sick, Margaret must go undercover as a dishwasher in a fancy restaurant while Todd acts as a restaurant critic to gather more intel on the possible suspect.

When Margaret is too sick to work on the final day of an important negotiation, Todd must step in and impersonate a lawyer while Margaret uses her investigative skills. Also, Margaret and Gus finally share their first kiss.

As Margaret and Todd work on two separate cases, Todd suspects a crime is happening in the courthouse right under their noses.

While in the hospital recovering from an emergency appendectomy, Todd is convinced he overheard a plot to murder someone. When Margaret realizes her clients are interested in Todds theories, she jumps into the role of private investigator.

Lawrence enlists Todds services to find out the sexual orientation of a judge. Also, with her clients livelihood at stake, Margaret and Lyle search for a reluctant witness.

While Margaret helps Susan serve justice for a tennis coach accused of drugging a teen athlete, Todd and Lyle embark on an epic office prank war.
