Knots Landing

J.R. Ewing is in town planning an offshore drilling project on the beach, which everyone is opposed to, except for Richard who asks Laura to get together with Chip Todson, J.R.s PR man. He asks her to do this so he can get the account. J.R. has an afternoon rendezvous with Karen (big mistake!). Gary goes to J.R.s office to steal an important file he can use against his brother. Along with the rest of the community, Gary protests by picketing on the beach.

Laura is feeling unappreciated, so she goes to a cocktail lounge in the middle of the afternoon and meets an artist. The artist buys her a drink, then invites her to his studio to do a portrait of her as a ruse to rape her. She hides the truth from Richard by saying a serial rapist that is on the loose in Knots Landing just had raped her at home before Richard got home. Val knows that this is not the case, and as she goes down to the police station to identify her attacker; the police end up arresting the wrong man.

Lucy comes to visit Knots Landing to see her parents, Valene and Gary. Lucy hopes that she will be happier with her parents, but due to past issues and Lucys lifestyle in Dallas, things do not go quite as planned.

Sids ex-wife, Susan, comes to the cul-de-sac where her motives are questioned by Sid and Karen.

When Karen learns that shes pregnant, she isnt sure she wants the baby, while Sid cant understand her mixed feelings regarding the pregnancy. When medical complications develop, Karen decides she wants to have the baby, but she miscarries. Eric takes a liking to Gingers 14-year-old sister who is visiting from Knots Landing. However, when he takes her out on a date, he finds her too sophisticated for him. Ginger tells Kenny she is ready for them to start a family.

Sid picks up a young hitchhiker who sets him up by asking him to give her money. When he refuses, she accuses him of rape. Diana has difficulty facing people. Sids sister, Abby Cunningham, arrives in Knots Landing with her two children. Karen persuades Sid to find a new attorney instead of Richard.

Gary meets Judy Trent who wants his help in getting her husband support from AA. Abby begins to show her manipulative nature (Already?) as she takes advantage of Eric and treis to seduce Kenny. Karen confronts her about this.

Kristen Shepard (she shot J.R., you know) is in Los Angeles following the shooting of J.R. in Dallas. At a party, she is arrested for drug use and decides to call Gary and Valene for help. Valene rushes to the police station to get her released. Kristen manipulates Valene into letting her stay with them. Valene asks Kristen why she left Dallas. Kristen says she has her reasons. Kenny gives Kristen a job at his studio, which upsets Sylvie (are we jealous?). Kenny decided that it is time to end his relationship with Sylvie and concentrate on getting back with Ginger. But alas, Ginger is now going out with Carl Russelman. When Kenny finds this out, he sleeps with Kristen. Ginger comes back early for being with Carl and finds Kenny and Kristen together. Kristen then decided to leave Knots Landing (and good riddance) after Gary sees through her ""sweet"" act. Ginger serves Kenny with a divorce.

The neighbors throw a barbecue for Laura to celebrate her new success as a realtor. At the party, Richard paws Abby and Laura overhears them planning to meet later. Laura later tells Richard she will no longer be his ""whipping boy"", and if his behavior continues, she is going to leave him. Ginger finds out she is pregnant and breaks up with Carl. Val is upset because Gary runs every time Judy Trent needs help with Earl. Val says she needs time with Gary too. Gary continues to comfort Judy and begins an affair with her.

J.R. is in town for an oil convention. When Gary refuses to ask him for the money, Abby goes to J.R. for it and sleeps with him. J.R. says he knows that Abby has designs on Gary and that hell only give Gary the money if he asks for it himself, so Abby keeps trying to persuade Gary. Val asks Gary not to get in any deals with J.R., and she and J.R. have a nasty confrontation. Roy and Frank continue to pressure Gary, so he finally goes to J.R., who gives him the $50,000.00. Kenny breaks up with Sylvie and wants to get back with Ginger, but she says no.

Jeff Cunningham is mad that Abby is having an affair with a married man (Richard) in front of the kids. Sid hears Karen talking with Jeff, and tells her not to discuss Abby with him. Karen says that Sid is blind to Abby, but he defends her and they argue. Jeff files for custody of the kids. He and Abby talk, and he admits he wants her back. Abby sleeps with him so hell drop the case, and then tells him that it was a one-time thing. Jeff is angry and says shes not playing fair with him. One of Lauras clients kisses her, but she says she cant cheat on Richard. Abby tells Richard that its over between them.

Kenny goes to see Ginger at school and implores her to get back together with him. She still refuses. Kenny shows up at her Lamaze class and they argue. Ginger feels bad, and finally tells him that both she and the baby need him. Vals doctor finds a malignant growth in her colon and needs to operate. Gary cant handle it - he feels so guilty about how hes treated Val, and totally breaks down. He calls Miss Ellie weeping, so Bobby comes to support him while Vals in the hospital. The doctor is able to remove all of the cancer.

Jeff picks up the kids and Abby is afraid he has kidnapped them when she cant locate them. Jeff finally returns them and says they were camping. Gingers sister Cindy visits, and gives Eric marijuana to hold for her. Sid finds it and is very upset. At a party, Cindy freaks out and runs into the ocean. Eric saves her, but shes in a coma. The doctor says the pot had angel dust in it. Eric is upset as everyone blames him, thinking its his pot. Cindy finally wakes up, and tells everyone that it wasnt Erics pot.

Jeff doesnt return the kids and Abbys really worried. The FBI question Gary about Frank and Roy, and Gary finally admits his illegal dealings to Sid. Abby claims to be innocent, and Sid believe her. Gary and Sid agree to do a sting operation for the FBI, and Frank and Roy are arrested. Sid and Gary will have to testify, so the FBI guards them. One of the mechanics at KLMotors lets the brake fluid out of Sids car. Abby receives a tape from Jeff telling her he took the kids because she is a bad mother. Abby totally flips out, so Karen calls Sid to come home to help Abby. Sid and an FBI agent get in his car to drive home. As they drive around the road, Sid realizes the breaks wont work. The car goes out of control crashes over the side of an embankment down to the beach below.

Sid has a blood clot which will permanently paralyze him unless they operate, however, theres a 40% chance the operation could kill him. Karen doesnt want him to get the operation, but Sid insists and makes Karen sign his consent form. Sid tells his family how much he loves them, and after they leave he makes a private tape recording for Karen. The neighbors all keep vigil with the Fairgates during the operation, and Karen and Gary make up. In the operating room, something goes horribly wrong. The doctor finally comes out, and Karen can see by his face that Sid has died. Everyone is crying and in shock. Later, Karen listens to the tape Sid made for her, telling her how much he loves her.

Abby is upset and trying to find her children. She answers the phone and its Olivia, but the line goes dead. After that, she doesnt want to leave the house in case Olivia calls again. But this doesnt stop her from dating; she just has them sleep over. Val and Gary see a newscast about Lilimae helping to sop a thief. The news says Lilimae is homeless, so Val invites her to their house. The next day, Lilimae is arrested for shoplifting, but the jude says hell only give her six months probation if Val and Gary assume responsibility for her. Val invites her to stay with them.

Karens old boyfriend, Teddy Becker, comes to visit. Teddy is convinced that Diana is his daughter, but Karen assures him that she is Sids. After hearing Teddy tell Diana that his sons asked to be adopted by their stepfather, Karen decided to let him think that Diana could be his. However, Karen shows Diana a photo of Sids grandmother, who looks exactly like Diana. Richard gives Laura a new car for her Christmas gift, but then Scooter comes by with a brand new Mercedes for her. Val is upset by past Christmas memories of her when her father died and Lilimae abandoned her. Gary reminds Val that Lilimae was only 14 when she got married, so Val should give her a break. Lilimae gives Val a quilt and they make up.

Ginger and Kenny argue over whether they should let Erin cry or pick her up. Karen goes to a grief group, and makes friends with Bill Medford, whose wife committed suicide. Bill tries to kiss Karen, but she says she isnt ready. Diana misinterprets their friendship and is enraged that Karen is dating. Out of spite, Diana goes to a party with Roy, a biker who Karen hates. He drinks as hes taking Diana home. When a police car tries to pull them over, Roy tries to outrun them, and he and Diana are arrested. Later Karen and Diana have a terrible argument, but then begin to talk and make up.

Laura takes the neighborhood women with her to check out an estate to sell. The estate is rumored to be haunted by the three sisters who lived there. The women must spend the night when Karens car wont start. The ghosts of the sisters want Val to join them and be their mother, and try to get her to jump off the roof. On the roof, Lilimae is able to talk Val out of her trance, and she doesnt jump.

Richard and Laura introduce Karen to a friend of theirs, Charles Linden, and she has her first date, but they dont get along. Kenny has Ginger make a demo tape for a song, and Andy Moore, another producer, encourages Ginger to pursue a singing career. Kennys against this, and wants Ginger to stay home with the baby. When he finds out Ginger and Andy are working behind his back, hes not happy but Ginger decides to go ahead with it.

Karens brother, Joe Cooper gets a job as a visiting professor at USC and moves in with them. Rusty, an old boyfriend of Vals comes to town and abandons his daughter Cricket at the Ewings. Upset at being abandoned, Cricket lies, steals and accidentally hurts Olivia. Val reluctantly takes Cricket to a shelter, but reconsiders and brings her back home. Gary finally locates Rusty, and Val confronts him, and he decides to come back for Cricket.

Abby tells Gary they need $20,000 to keep their Methanol business going. Abby meets an engineer named Larry, but casts him aside when she meets Andrew Douglas, a famous silent-movie director. Larry, meanwhile, becomes more interested in Karen, and Abby is jealous. Abby uses Andrew, who says she reminds him of his deceased wife, Terry Clarington. Andrew is rich, and somewhat senile, and at times thinks Abby is Terry. He tells Abby that he will put her in his will. However, when he dies, he has left the money to Terry Clarington, so Abby gets nothing. Shes also lost Larry to Karen, which further upsets her.

A publisher wants to publish Vals book, but Gary doesnt want her to since it airs his familys dirty laundry. Val agrees that she wont if Gary will only see Abby at KLMotors during normal working hours. Knowing this, Abby deliberately sets up a meeting at night, and convinces Gary he has to be there. Gary goes, so Val signs the publishing contract. Richards boss tells him to set up another client party with prostitutes. Unaware that shes taping him, Richard tells a prostitute that his company is only using him as a pimp. The tape is played on the news, and his boss releases a statement that hiring the prostitutes was all Richards idea and they had no knowledge of it. He then fires Richard.

Karen and Laura visit Richard in the hospital where he is getting better. Val makes a romantic dinner for Gary, but he says he has a meeting with Abby and a client and he promised shed baby-sit Olivia. Upset, Val takes Olivia and they drive into the mountains. They eat at a diner, but she forgot her wallet, so she waitresses to pay for the meal. A truck has overturned on the freeway, so they have to stay overnight. The diner owner kisses Val, but she says she cant sleep with him. Meanwhile with Val away, Gary and Abby sleep together but hes consumed with guilt. Lilimae sees Garys car at Abbys and waits up for him, but he doesnt come home. The next day, Val apologizes to Gary and says shell be more lenient with his business. They hug, and Lilimae shoots Gary a look that could kill!

Richard tries to get his job back, and they call Laura to bring him home. While there, she sees a suicide note in the garbage, and decides to move back in. Vals publisher changes the name of her book to ""Capricorn Crude"", and hires Joe to be the editor. Val asks Gary to go to her publishing party, but he says no because hes mad about the book. At lunch, Karen and Lilimae see Abby and Gary coming out of an apartment together. Lilimae tells Gary she saw this and will tell Val if he wont go with her to the party. Gary agrees to go to the party, but that night hes at the apartment with Abby, who wont let him leave. At the party, Vals very upset about Gary not showing up. Karen leaves and Val sees her and follows. Karen goes to the apartment and bangs on the door until Gary and Abby finally let her in. The door is open and Val walks in and sees whats going on. She takes off for home where she packs. Gary has followed, but she wont let him in. As she gets back into her car, Gary trie

Joe warns Mac that Karen is using the court transcripts to try and go after Frank and Roy herself. Karen asks Wayne to negotiate a parts deal, and he goes to Frank and Roy, who set him up with their front men Marshall and Angelo. J.R. has one of his companies buy Vals publishing company. J.R. also meets with Abby, who will only give him the rest of the book if hell tell her about Jocks will. J.R. tells her that Garys coming into millions, and it isnt dependent on Val. Lauras water breaks. Richard rushes her to the hospital, but the car goes off the road and Laura gives birth in the car. The baby isnt breathing, but Richard saves him by giving him mouth-to-mouth. They name their new son Daniel.

Karen goes through the KLMotors books and finds checks to West Century Auto, Frank and Roys company. Karen invests money in Richards restaurant, because Laura is concerned that Richard is spending too much money. Karen is being followed. Kennys boss wont let him make a demo with Ciji, so Kenny and Gary decide to make a demo with her on their own. Vals publicist, Bess Riker sends a messenger, Chip Roberts to drop off photos at Vals. He charms Val and Lilimae, and tells him hes a publicist. Back at the office, Bess tells Chip that if he thinks hes so hot he can be Vals publicist. Val appears on The Mike Douglas Show.

Gary goes to Dallas for the reading of Jocks will, and Abby flies in to surprise him. Val is at the same hotel on her book signing tour. Val and Abby are civil to each other, but Vals very upset when she sees Gary. Garys money is left to him in trust, and hes very angry that even in death Jock doesnt trust him. J.R. goes to Vals book signing and tells her he hopes her book is a best-seller, because he owns the publishing company and will profit from it. Diana and Mac dont get along. Chip and Bess have an argument and she breaks up with him and fires him. Chip tells Lilimae that he quit over policy differences and lost his lease, so Lilimae invites him to live with her and Val. Chip hits on Diana.

Abby invites a famous record producer, Jeff Munson, to hear Ciji sing. Kennys worried that Jeff will take over, but Gary tells him not to worry. Jeff knows Val and asks her out in front of Gary, and hes jealous. Lauras upset that Richard took money from Abby and is lying to her again. Gary spends the day with Ciji, and Abbys jealous. Diana decides to apologize to Mack and goes to his apartment. She finds him with another women. Mack then tells Karen that its his neighbor Patricia, and she means nothing to him. Karens very upset, but Val tells her to give Mac another chance. Mac tells Karen that he loves her, but Karen says she doesnt love him.

Laura and Ciji become friends and spend time together. Its Cijis 25th birthday and Chip calls and says hes hung up at work, so Laura gets her a cake. Kenny hears rumors that Jeff is taking over their record label, but Gary assures him its not true. Abby refuses to donate her kidney at first, but then decides to after talking to Diana. Karen thanks her but Abby says shes doing it for Sid and Diana, NOT for her. Chip gives Diana the necklace he bought for Cijis birthday and tells her he loves her. Surgery goes fine and both Diana and Abby are okay. Karen goes into Abbys room while shes sleeping and kisses her on the forehead.

Abby sells Cijis contract to Jeff Munson. Jeff wants Kenny to produce Ciji, but Abby will only sell if they cut Kenny out of the deal. She tells Kenny hes out, and hes very angry. Kenny and Gary get into a fight. Abby goes to Garys lawyer, James Westmont, and wants him to protect her interests in case Gary doesnt marry her. Chip is offered a job with Thornwell and Associates if he can bring them Vals account. Chip steals 2 chapters of her current manuscript and gives it to them. Ciji tells Chip that shes pregnant, and Chip yells that this will ruin everything and manhandles her. Val has been putting off signing her divorce papers. Jeff takes her to New York for the weekend, and she sees a new, more down-to-earth side of him. Val finally signs the papers.

A tabloid prints the 2 chapter of Vals book. Shes very upset because it was a diary of her breakup with Gary. She and Jeff blames Chip, who feigns innocence. Thornwall tells Chip it is a tactic to get Val to sign with them - they can promise her that he can prevent things like this from happening in the future. Gary is furious over the tabloid and barges into Vals. He and Jeff get in a fight and Mack breaks it up. Val overhears Chip telling Lilimae that Gary is cheating with Ciji (Chip is lying.).Gary tells Abby they need to talk, because theyre hurting too many people. Abby promises to set aside time, but doesnt. Gary considers having a drink. Everythings going wrong with the details for Mac and Karens wedding, so they sneak out of the rehearsal and go to Las Vegas. They get married at ""The Bridal Veil Chapel"". The place is so tacky that Karen giggles throughout the whole ceremony.

Gary wakes up at Cijis and they talk. Abby then threatens her to stay away from Gary. Ciji is upset and asks Laura why everyone hates her and accuses her of things she hasnt done. Ciji finds an article Chip has that says he is wanted in connection for a beating, and his name is Tony Fenice. Chip threatens Ciji not to tell anyone, and she breaks up and fires him. Richard accuses Laura of having an affair with Ciji. Val blames herself for Garys drinking, and goes to police station when hes arrested. Abby and Westmont are bailing him out, and Abby and Val argue. When Gary wakes up, he overhears Abby telling Westmont to insert a clause in her contract that if Garys capacity is diminished due to his alcoholism, she will get full power of attorney over his money.

Cijis body is found, and Gary is passed out on the beach about 200 feet away. Gary goes home, where Abby keeps questioning him about whether he did it, and Gary cant remember. When it comes out that Ciji was pregnant, Gary doesnt think the baby was his, but cant be sure. Chip tells Diana hes going to New York alone, and will send for her when hes settled. Lauras really upset and takes it out on Richard. An old girlfriend of Macs, Janet Baines, is handling Cijis case. Mac requests an autopsy, and they think Ciji was murdered. Janet questions all of the neighbors. Abby hires Mitchell Casey, a criminal lawyer. Mitch doesnt want Gary to go to the police, but Gary does, and tells them that he initially lied to them, and that he woke up on the beach near Ciji. Gary is charged with Cijis murder.

Val is booked and questioned. Abby goes to jail and has Gary sign over power of atty. to her. When she finds out Val confessed, Abby laughs and says, ""Thats so Val."" Abby wants Mitch to get Vals confession thrown out. Mitch tells Abby shed better determine what is more important - keeping Val and Gary apart, or getting Gary out of Jail. Police bring Val to Cijis to recreate the fight. Other police show up with Gary. Garys really upset, and says Val has nothing to do with it. Police have to restrain them. Lilimae tells Chip it was his leaking Vals story that started this whole mess, and kicks him out. Chip tries to charm Lilimae, but shes no longer buying it. Police release Val. Richard has decided to leave Laura, but doesnt tell her. He liquidates his assets and takes care of unfinished business, packs and secretly leaves.

Karen is very upset that Dianas gone. Mack is sure that Chip killed Ciji, and they put out an APB for them. Val is dogged by reporters. A ""mystery man"" helps her escape them. Abby is mad that Mitch is still defending Gary. He tells Abby that she cant fire him, as Gary is his client. Garys mad and says he cant trust Abby. On the stand, Janet admits that Gary was charged because of the way he worded his statement, and that there are other suspects. The judge drops Garys charges and releases him. Ecstatic, Gary looks around for Val, catches her eye and smiles at her. Abby sees this and quickly hugs him, but Gary continues to smile at Val.

Abby and Gary move to the ranch. Abby gets an office in town - complete with apartment. She and Westmont secretly start a subsidiary of Garys company. Gary offers Laura a position as his real estate investor, and asks her to keep an eye on Abby. Police find that Diana used her credit card in Oklahoma, so Karen and Mac fly there. Diana assures Chip she loves him. After being spotted by a state trooper, they take off down a dirt road. They find an abandoned shack. The next morning, Chip and Diana find they are surrounded by police, and Chip pretends to hold Diana hostage. A policeman shoots, which causes confusion, and Chip is arrested. Karen tries to hug Diana, but Diana pushes her away, and runs to police car and tells Chip she loves him. A reporter asks Diana a question, and she replies ""Its not Miss Fairgate. Its Mrs. Tony Fenice.""

Gary and Abby go to Gregs fundraiser and Gary donates money to him. Val and Ben are there, and she introduces Gary and Ben. Greg asks Mac to head up his crime commission. Karen and Eric go to the ranch to see Diana. Diana goes off on Karen, and Eric slaps Diana. Lilimae tries to convince both Chip and Diana to testify that he killed Ciji, because he has to pay for his crime. Janet tells Lilimae that since Chip wont confess and Diana wont testify, they dont have enough to hold Chip and hell be released the next day. Lilimae decides to try and talk to him one last time, and brings Karen to talk to Diana. As they pull up, Chip has already been released and is talking to reporters. Lilimae revs the gas and hits Chip with her car.

Eric goes to the hospital and tells Diana that hes glad that Sid isnt around. He reminds Diana that Sid died in order to bring someone to justice, and would be disgusted with her. Diana tells the police that she will testify. Laura tells Gary that he is to Val as alcohol is to him, and that if he doesnt have plans to get back together with her, he needs to leave her alone, as stringing her along is cruel. Gary tells Abby hell marry her, and they do. Dr. Bovine suggests that Lilimae be put in Lakevail Sanitarium. At Lakevail, Lilimae begs Val not to leave her there, and they both cry. At home, Val calls Gary for support. Olivia answers and tells Val that Gary and Abby are on their honeymoon. At the hotel, Gary orders room service. The waitress looks exactly like Ciji, and Gary is dumbfounded.

Mac visits Tom Jessick, an attorney friend that he sent to jail and says he wants him on the crime commission. Gregs at the McKenzies and his daughter Mary Francis comes by, angry that he forgot to pick her up. Karen invites Mary Francis to stay with them. Police patrol the ranch for Chip. Cathy tells Gary that she thought he might be someone her ex-husband Roy sent to find her. Gary invites Cathy to live and work at the ranch. Abby finds out shell need a coastal variance to develop Lotus Point, and asks Greg for help. They sleep together, and he says that a member of the coastal commission will meet with her. Laura tells Abby she knows about H & O, but wont tell Gary for a piece of the action. Val makes a romantic meal for Ben. She gets mad and leaves when he assumes she will sleep with him. Later, she goes back, and she and Ben make love.

Mac questions Tom about whether a lawyer named Cavanaugh is the head of the Wolfbridge group. Mac wants Tom to go back to them as an inside man. Gary asks Cathy to sing for him. She gets upset and tells him shes not Ciji, and never will be. Greg gives Abby the coastal variance she needs. They begin kissing, and then notice that Laura is watching them. Val is worried because Karen is acting so strange. Karen tells her shes tired, and continues to take more pills. Detective Nick Morrison posts a policeman on the ranch. Chip tells Diana they need to leave the next day. Diana goes to meet Chip. Chip is hiding in the stable. Cathy walks in. Chip is dumbfounded, thinking shes Ciji. Frightened, he scrambles to get away from her, and falls on a pitchfork. Police and Diana run to the stable when they hear Cathy screaming. Chips dead.

Jane Sumner comes to town, so Greg cant pay attention to Abby. Mac asks Greg to help him find Tom Jessick. A man tells Greg to get rid of Mac or theyll drop his campaign. Cathy goes to Abby and says she wants out of their deal for her to impersonate Ciji, because she doesnt want to hurt Gary, but Abby wont let her. Val and Mac are concerned about Karen. Val finishes her book ""Nashville Junction"" about Lilimaes life. Ben asks Val for more of a commitment. Then Val finds out she is 3 months pregnant with Garys baby.

Mac has Karen admitted to a hospital chemical dependency program. Karen denies she has a problem .Abby is angry at Greg for getting her involved with Mark St. Claire. Mark tells Abby that the Marcuss house has burned down, so Abby tells Laura to make them another offer. St. Claire tells Greg he has one more chance to drop Mac, or else he will give incriminating information to his opponent. Greg has a press conference and says that Mac abused his power and got a variance for Karens property on Lotus Point, and so hes asked Mac to resign. Mac questions Karen about Lotus Point. She says she gets checks, but doesnt remember anything else. Gary barges into Abbys office and says he is going to have her books audited. Jane and Mary Francis apologize to the MacKenzies for Greg and go back to Sacramento. Jane berates Greg for making the election more important than friendship. Greg wins the primary race.

Gary finds out that Cathy was in prison for 2nd-degree murder. He asks Abby about it. Abby tells Cathy to leave and threatens to tell her ex-husband Ray where she is. Cathy counters that if she does, shell tell Gary that Abby hired her to distract him so she could steal him blind. Abby calls Ray. Greg breaks a date with Abby and sleeps with Laura. Mac goes to the DA who tells him that he might be disbarred. Mac goes to the Apaloon address and finds out its a mail service. Some guys beat him up. Ben tells Val he is taking a job in South America, and Val doesnt want him to. They hug. Michael, Eric and Gary talk to Diana about making up with Karen. Finally, Diana and Karen make up. Mac has Eric drop off a bright orange mailer for Apaloon at the mail service, and then watches to see who picks it up. He sees Laura go in and come out with the bright orange mailer.

Ben proposes to Val and says hell raise the baby as his own. She accepts.Cathy tells Gary that she killed a man in self defense (but she really took the blame for a murder that Ray committed). She says Abby hired her to divert him from her business dealings, but she fell in love with him. Laura tells the MacKenzies about Apaloon and Mark St. Claire. Mack barges into Abbys office, but she denies knowing anything. She tells Westmont if Gary finds out and sues her she would win. She can claim hes mentally unstable because hes been trying to re-create Ciji, a dead girl. Greg gives a press conference saying Abby got the variance and re-instates Mac. Gary confronts Abby, who feigns innocence. He loses it and starts trashing the room and screams at her to get out of his life. Abby runs to Gregs, only to find him in bed with Laura. Abby tries to talk to Gary, but he tells her to contact him through his lawyer.

Val is upset as Ben leaves for El Salvador. She finds out shes having twins. She gets a call saying Ben and 2 others were on their way to a rebel encampment and their jeep was hit and the men are missing. Cathy gives Ray $5,000 to leave, but he wont. He grabs Cathy by the hair and Gary sees and beats him up. Ray says theyll pay for this. Gary and Cathy sleep together. Mac, back on the crime commission, pretends hes no longer going after Wolfbridge but tells Abby hell grant her immunity if shell help him go after them. Abby tells Greg. Mac tells Tom Jessick that Abby bought that he needed her help and has already probably told Wolfbridge. Gary has Abbys assets frozen, and St. Claire tells Greg that its his problem to unfreeze them.

Gary is murdered, and Val flips out. Abby is in shock. Cathy decides to leave the ranch and Laura invites her to stay with her. Cathy tells Laura she never murdered anyone and took the blame for Ray. Detective Morrison tells Abby that she is a suspect in Garys murder, and he wants to know about Wolfbridge. Ben is alive, but badly injured and delirious, and is being taken care of by nuns in a mission. At Garys funeral, Abby tells Val that she is Garys widow, not Val. Laura tells Val that when she and Gary were seeing each other, Gary only married Abby so that Val would go on with her life. So he married Abby because he loved Val, not Abby. As the funeral begins, Morrison asks Cathy to come downtown for questioning. At the police station, Cathy goes into a room and Garys there - ALIVE - and they start to kiss.

A man tells Val that Gary is alive and that she will be receiving a call from Mark St. Claire, but if she mentions the conversation, Gary will be killed. Ben tells Val that Gary is dead. Karen tells Val that Gary is alive, but kidnapped. Val confronts Ben, who says he was happy when he thought Gary was dead, because hes tired of her being in love with him. Val breaks up with him. Mac has Gary stashed away at the Bel Mar motel, and brings Abby to see Gary. Garys mad at her and doesnt like Macs plan as it depends on Abby. Mac says he has no choice. Greg calls a press conference and says that he found out Wolfbridge is a criminal organization, and gives credit to Mac. Greg says he will sever all ties with them. Mac tells Abby he is going to wire her, and will bring Gary out to the lobby at 3:30 so that St. Claire will have a chance to shoot Gary again. Abby needs to get him to say something that will link him to the assassination attempt and then get away from him as fast as she can.

The doctor tells Karen that shell die within the year unless she has a risky operation with only a 50% survival rate. Mac wants to get back together with her, but Karen lies and says she doesnt love him. Mac moves in with Ben. Diana moves to New York. Joshua Rush shows up at Vals. His mother was Lilimaes sister. She abandoned him and he wants to learn about her from Lilimae. She says her sister was a vicious, wicked tramp and he should be glad that shes dead. Val invites Joshua to stay with them. St. Claire threatens Greg and he comes to the yacht. Abby sees a gun in a drawer and gives it to Greg. Greg shoots Mark St. Claire.

Abby gives a press conference on behalf of Greg. Afterwards Greg tells her he will never work with her again. Mad, Abby asks a reporter at the cable station to dig up the medical history of Gregs opponent, Bob Caufield. He finds out that Caufield had been in a psychiatric hospital. Abby overrides Ben and runs the story, and Ben is livid. Greg tells Abby that he will wring the neck of whoever leaked it. Abby smiles and tells him that HE leaked it. Cathy invites Joshua to hear her sing. Val convinces Lilimae to tell Joshua that she is his mother. Lilimae does, and Joshua, upset and angry, walks out. Val talks to him about how Lilimae abandoned her too but if hes willing to give her a chance, hell find out shes a beautiful woman. Joshua decides to stay.

Val asks Mac to be her birthing coach, and Gary tells her he wishes she would have asked him. Val and Gary try to get Karen and Mac back together, but Abbys worried that Val will tell Gary about the babies. Abby asks Scott Easton if the babies can be heirs and complains about them, but says theres nothing she can do about it. Easton replies, ""You never know..."" Abby hires Joshua to work at the cable station. Gary tries to use reverse psychology on Karen and tells her to divorce Mac, but to his surprise, Karen agrees and goes to see a divorce lawyer. Cathy has a romantic dinner with Joshua. Ben gives Mac a tape about Gary Loader, who was in prison with Tom Jessick. Greg wins his election to become Senator. He gives his acceptance speech. Afterwards, Jane tells him that she wants a divorce.

Karen and Mac talk but she doesnt tell him shes dying. Scott Easton calls Abby and says he has negotiated Lotus Points water rights with Paul Galveston, and to expect a bonus within the next few days as a ""thank you"". Ben is away on a story. Val has pains all day, and Dr. Ackerman tells her to take more pills. Home alone, she goes into labor. Michael and Eric take her to the hospital. They call Gary, who immediately leaves, angering Abby. Ackerman tells Val hes going to put her under anesthesia. She protests but he says there are complications. Everything goes fuzzy for Val. She gives birth, sees the babies, and hears them cry. She hears the nurse say that the babies are healthy. Val wakes up, and Ackerman tells her that the babies were stillborn. Val insists that she saw and heard them, but Ackerman says her mind was playing tricks on her because she was under sedation. Gary calls Abby to tell her that the babies are dead. Abby is genuinely concerned. Then Abby receives a call fro

Abby continues to search for Easton. Abby goes to see Dr. Ackerman to ask where the babies are. Ackerman tells her she is sick. She tells him that Easton is dead. Cathy and Joshua make love again. Gary has lunch with Paul Galveston. He and Galveston hit it off and Galveston gives Gary his prize horse. Tom Jessick tells Mac that Gary Loader was a policeman who was framed because he knew too much about the ""Tidal Basin"" murders. One of the victims was Lila Maxwell, a secretary at Galveston Industries. Mac notices Karen isnt using her right hand, so she tells him it is sprained. Karen decides to get a second opinion, and the doctor tells her she needs the operation or she will die. Ben is concerned about Vals mental health. Joshua finds Val having a conversation with someone about her babies, only no one else is there. Val has a nightmare and wakes up screaming. Val overhears Ben and Lilimae deciding to get help for her, so the next morning she packs and calls a cab.

Galveston asks Gary to go in with him on a planned community in Empire Valley. Galveston tells some men that hes using Gary because hes stupid and wont know whats going on, but he will be help in getting the community built. Gary asks Greg to go in on Empire Valley, but Greg wants no part of it. While driving with Michael, Karens hands go out again and they almost crash. Mac insists she see a doctor. Karen finally tells Mac what is going on and he says he wont let her die. Joshua gets a lot of fan mail after being on TV, so Abby asks him to make another plea to Val. Kelly asks Ben to give her a chance, but he says he cant. In Shula, Val rents a room and hears a report on the radio about her disappearance, but doesnt respond to it in any way. She meets Parker Winslow, the local dry cleaner, who asks her out to a pancake breakfast.

Karens surgery goes well. Galveston tells Greg to tell Mac to stop investigating the Tidal Basin murders, but instead Greg tells Mac to look for a connection between them and Galveston Industries. Detective tells Abby that Val has become Verna Ellers from her book ""Nashville Junction"", and that she seems happy. He says hell do a fake report, in exchange for sex with Abby. He tells Gary he has no leads and is dropping the case. Galveston has his men bring him Abbys detective. Galveston threatens him, so the detective tells him where Val is. Then another man brings him all of Scott Eastons papers. Abby waits for the detective, but instead Galveston shows up and tells her that he knows where Val is and about the babies and unless she comes up with a damn good explanation, hes going to tell Gary.

Joshuas ego is getting really big. Joshua tells Cathy she needs to mend her ways and sing in church, not in a bar, and he breaks up with her. Abbys worried that Mac will find out her connection with the babies. Galveston has Jamison and Whiteside sign a confession for Lila Maxwells murder. A man gets into Macs car and tells him that hes not aiming high enough in his investigation of Galveston. Gary continues to try and convince Val that she is not Verna. Val makes plans for her wedding, and imagines dancing with Gary in her wedding dress. Gary shows Val her picture on the back of ""Nashville Junction"". Parkers worried when Val is late for the wedding. Shes in her room, staring at her picture on the book cover. Val finally goes to the church. Gary barges in and interrupts the ceremony. Parker wants the Minister to continue, but Gary insists he is going to bring Val home to California.

Joshua apologizes to Cathy and says hes making a lot of mistakes as hes never had a girlfriend before but hes unhappy without her. Galvestons men contact Greg and want to transfer power to him, but he refuses. Meanwhile, Garys frustrated he cant get in to see Galveston and is told hes away on business. Abby finds Scott Eastons notebook, but the pertinent pages about Vals babies are ripped out. Val starts therapy with Dr. Michaels, but misses a lot of sessions and Karen tries to convince her to go. She hears Lilimae and Ben talking about having her committed, so she yells at Lilimae for abandoning her and calls her a tramp. She hears Lilimae crying, but is unconcerned. Finally Val opens up to her Dr., and then feels bad about attacking Lilimae. Ben gives Val a ride home, and she suddenly remembers his beach house and orchids. He is overjoyed.

Joshua asks to open Reverend Kathryns show, but then takes up the whole 30 minutes. Rev. Kathryn is starting to become disgusted with Joshs ego. Abby tells Joshua to come up with sermons, and if she thinks he can sustain the show, shell fire Rev. Kathryn. Joshua replies he doesnt need Abby to check his sermons or hell go elsewhere. Joshua also announces that Cathy will sing on his show, even though she doesnt want to. Karen questions people about the evening Val gave birth, and tells Gary she thinks the twins are alive. Abby overhears. Galveston dies. The mystery woman comes in, and she is Gregs mother Ruth. She tells Greg that she married Galveston and she wants him to take over the company. An old friend comes to see Greg and tells him that Empire Valley is the cover for an international communications center, and that they will monitor and influence all government communications in every country in the world. Gregs still resistant.

Joshua apologizes to Cathy and proposes. She accepts and Abby decides to throw them a party. Karen finds out who the nurse on duty was the night Val gave birth. Karen finds Nurse Wilson, and questions her, but she doesnt say anything. Karen tells Lilimae that Wilson is scared, and brings Lilimae to talk with her too. Gary decides to go ahead with Empire Valley, but asks Mac and Ben for their reports as he doesnt trust Greg. At the engagement party, Greg warns Coblentz about Abby. Josh announces to everyone that as soon as theyre married, Cathy is going to stop singing. Cathys angry, and he tells her she doesnt need to make scenes to get his attention. Val comforts Cathy and tells her to stand up to Joshua. Abby meets with Coblentz and pretends to know whats really going on, and Coblentz, thinking she already knows, tells her all. Greg tells Coblentz that Abby faked him out, and Coblentz tells Greg to undue the damage.

Gary tells Greg he will be part of Empire Valley, and then lies to Mac, telling him its a legitimate business. Dr. Ackerman wont talk to Karen, so Mac tells her hell help her to get evidence. Val sneaks out of Bens, and then cancels dates with him. Bens frustrated, and Val tells Karen shes trying to act normal, but feels like shes going crazy because she knows the babies are alive. Karen hires Eric to be the Assistant General Manager at Lotus Point. Abby tells Greg about Scott Easton and the babies, and tells Greg she needs the missing notebook pages. He gives her some pages, but they dont have the information on them. Greg goes to the Fishers and watches them from his car. Ruth makes snide comments to Laura about Greg spending so much time with Abby, and tells Greg that she likes Abby much better.

Ruth tells Abby that she will get her the notebook pages, and to keep her TV station. She tells Abby that she is like the daughter she never had. At dinner, Ruth constantly puts Laura down, so Laura tells her off. Later, Laura wants Greg to tell her he loves her, but Greg says everything except that. Greg tells Ruth its time for her to go back to Africa. Joshua tells Cathy he doesnt want to move out because he cant abandon Val. Val says not to blame it on her. Ben has a reporter check out Ackerman. He finds that Ackerman has gambling debts, and they think that was his motive for agreeing to steal the babies. The reporter gives Ben a list of unethical adoption agencies. Ben and Karen go to one, posing as a couple who wants to adopt, and say they were recommended by Ackerman. When they leave, the lawyer calls Ackerman and tells him Karen came to see him, and she was just as Ackerman described her.

Greg keeps trying to call Laura, who hangs up on him. He follows her and explains that it was a stunt Ruth set up, so he kicked her out. Greg asks Laura to marry him, but she says shes already married. The police question Karen about Ackerman, while Mac goes to his office and finds Vals file. He sets the alarm off, and is arrested. After Mac is out, they find a list in the file that has the name couples who illegally adopted babies, but there are no addresses on the list. One name on the list - Harry Fisher - rings a bell. The next day at work Karen tells Gary the babies are alive. Mac remembers that he and Ben were at the Fishers house, and they had twins. Mac calls Karen and tells her to meet him there. Gary goes with her. Harry Fisher rushes home and tells his wife Sheila to pack, that they have to leave on a vacation now. At the studio, Cathy tells Joshua shes getting an apartment - with or without him. Joshua grabs her really hard and says to NEVER speak to him in public like that. Gary goes to Dallas for Bobbys funeral. Greg tells the Empire Valley foremen, Elliot, to blast for the TV station in another position, but he wont without Garys okay. Val waits outside of the Fishers house. Ben tells Harry that the twins might not be Vals, but either way they need to clear it up. Nurse Wilson finally shows up at the Judges, and Mac gets a court order barring the Fishers from leaving. Sheila is really losing it, so Harry agrees to run away with her. Karen drives by the Fishers house. She sees Sheila leaving, and Macs men follow her. Karen sees Harrys inside, so she tells him she knows that Sheila doesnt really have the babies with her. Karen pleads with Harry and tells him that even if he didnt know the babies were stolen before, he knows now. She says they have no moral choice but to give them ba

Mac decides to investigate adoptions and asks the governor to send him someone to help him with the red tape. He sends Jill Bennett. She and Mac flirt and they kiss. Greg sees Laura with a co-worker and is jealous. Greg gives Abby a phony report that says the site for the TV station is better then where Gary wanted it. Ben tells Joshua that his ratings are slipping. Josh apologizes to Cathy and asks her to sing on his show again. Val plans the babies christening. She asks Mac and Karen to be the godparents. Val decides to name her daughter Elizabeth (Betsy) after Bens mother.Lilimaes shoulder hurts, and so she goes to a few doctors appointments, but its nothing serious. Joshua tells Cathy that Lilimaes dying, so he cant move out. Sheila Fisher follows Val and the babies around. Harrys worried about her. They go to Vals and tell her theyre moving, but will always love the babies. Val lets them say goodbye to the twins.

Joshua is upset that Cathy gets more fan mail than he does. Ben shows Cathy how much the ratings rise when she is on. Cathy asks if Joshua knows that and Ben says yes. Garys upset that the TV station was built on the wrong site. Greg tells Abby that shed better get Elliot to back up their phony report (as Peter listens in on the phone). Abby tells Elliot that she found out his son was once arrested on a drug charge. Hes graduating from law school and Abby threatens to tell his employers, so Elliot lies to Gary about the phony report. Karens jealous of Mac working with Jill, and tells Val that the way they argue reminds her of she and Mac when they first met. Jill tells Mac she is going back to Sacramento, but he says hed like her to stay.

Gary is sure the twins are his. Joshua tries to break into Cathys apartment, and then trashes Vals house. Val kicks him out and Lilimae is upset. At the station Joshua finds out that Ben gave his show to Cathy, and he and Ben fight. Cathy tells Ben that Josh is upset because Lilimae is dying. Ben talks with her Doctor, who says Lilimae only has bursitis. Cathy is upset that Joshua would lie to her like that. Greg thinks Peter is snooping too much, but Peter says Greg is sloppy with information. Equipment convoys for the underground communication center are coming to Empire Valley on Monday, so Abby asks Gary to go away with her to get him out of town.Val and Ben ask the McKenzies to stand up for them at their wedding, and to go along with them that Ben is the twins father. On the day of the wedding, Val and Lilimae make up. Gary decides to drop Olivia off before going out of town and stops to talk to Val. Ben sees this and isnt happy.

Elliots widow tells Gary Elliot was there because he was dissatisfied with how things were going at Empire Valley. Gary tells Mac. Val and Lilimae are really worried about Joshua. They find him preaching in the mission district. Val offers to take him to a psychiatrist. Joshua tells Lilimae hes come up with a plan for he and Cathy to be together forever. As Cathy drives home from the station, Joshua pops up from the backseat. Holding a knife to her neck, he instructs her to drive to the mission district. He takes her to the roof of a building. He tells her hes going to throw her over and kill himself, so theyll always be together. Laura calls Vals, worried that Cathy isnt home. Lilimae drives to the mission district where she saw Josh preach, and seeing Cathys car, follows them to the building. Lilimae reaches the roof and yells at Joshua to let Cathy go. She screams that Joshua is cruel and a liar. Joshua puts Cathy down, and starts backing up as Lilimae yells that hes a monst

Ben lets Cathy move into his beach house. Lilimae blames Ben for Joshuas death, and decides to move in with Cathy. Kenny, Lindas boyfriend, tells her that he was there when Joshua died. Gary tells Greg hell sell Empire Valley, and to call off the hit man. He says if anything happens to him, hes left Empire Valley to Mac. Greg tells Coblentz that Gary will sell, but Coblentz tells the hit man to kill them anyway. Gary sends the kids away, and makes Abby dress in coveralls and help him to carry things into the buildings at Empire Valley. Gary has the security guard call Greg. Greg rushes to Empire Valley, and so do Mac and Karen. The hit man is about to shoot Gary, but just then everyone drives up and yells to Gary to watch out. Gary activates a remote control, and all of the structures in Empire Valley blow up. Greg and Abby are furious, but Gary whoops with joy!

Peter tells Laura that Greg needs her, so she invites him to dinner.Gary tells Val that he know the twins are his. She tells him that he needs to respect that she, Ben and the twins are a family. Gary continues to hang around the twins, so Ben tells Gary it has to stop. Abby gets mad when Gary sides with Karen on a Lotus Point issue. He says that he trusts Karen, and doesnt trust her, so he will always side with Karen, and shed better get used to it. Gary also sleeps with another woman. Jill is in town and tells Karen the Governor wants to know if shed be interested in being on the State Planning Commission. Karen says yes. Jill is very cool towards Mac, who introduces Gary to Jill. Kenny is arrested for Joshuas murder. Cathy wants to tell the truth, but Lilimae says they will release him if they keep quiet. However, Kenny is charged with the murder.

Jill tells Karen that someone spoke to the Governor on Abbys behalf, but shell do all she can to help her. Abby tells Karen that they wont choose her because of her drug problem. Karen tells them about her drug problem, but its too late - the Governor already chosen Abby. Peter lets Greg know he went to law school. He then visits his ""mother"" and they talk about how theyll have a lot of money soon. Cathy and Lilimae are grilled by police. The police tell Mac that they may be charged with murder - after all, Cathy was in prison for murder, and Lilimae had run over Chip.Cathy has a new saxophone player on her show, Sonny Harkins. He befriends Cathy and says hell be there if she needs to talk. Unbeknownst to her, he tapes their conversations.

Peter tells Greg that hes his brother, and brings Sylvia to meet him. Laura thinks Peter is up to something, and is frustrated that Greg seems unconcerned. Abby overhears Laura telling this to Karen, and she asks Peter out for a drink. Gary decides to go into racing. Karen finds Jills hotel key in Macs pocket and confronts him with it. He tries to explain that he would never use it, but it made him feel younger, more alive, like life wasnt passing him by, and he hopes Karen will understand. Crying, she says no. Macs upset that Jill went through his Westfall file without permission. Sonny accidentally drops a tape marked ""Cathy #3"". Val plays the tape, and hears Sonnys notes about his articles. Meanwhile, Sonny is out to dinner with Cathy. She tells him how Joshua tried to throw her off of the roof, and that Lilimae saved her life. Sonny says hes sorry for what Joshua did to her.

Karen and Mac make up.Greg asks Peter to start a social relationship with Abby. Peter tells Sylvia that Greg wants him to spy on Abby, and Abby wants him to spy on Greg. Sylvia is concerned that Peters double dealing will backfire on him. Gary and Jill sleep together. Later, they run into Peter, who asks Jill if Gary suspects anything. She says no. Mac and Ben think that the Governor must be opening the Westfall case, since Jill is so interested in it. Abby hires a detective to check out Jill. Michael finds that Olivia has a joint, but she says shes holding it for a friend. Val throws a party for the twins first birthday. They open the card from Gary, and inside is a deed to half of Empire Valley.

Michael is booked. He denies the joint is his, but wont say whos it is. Michael tried to convince Olivia to tell the truth, but she wont. Karen suspects it is Olivias and tells Abby, who is enraged that Karen could think such a thing. Gary is in a race car crash, and is kept in the hospital overnight for observation. Abby shows up and doesnt like that Jill is there. She tells Peter that she values her marriage and to ""distract"" Jill. Mac and Jill go to check water samples at Westfall. The town doctor, who thinks he recognizes Jill, says that there has been an increase in arsenic poisoning. Mac looks through a Franklin High yearbook, and sees Jills picture with the name Dorothy Simpkins. Greg tells his attorney to make Peter an offer, but not too big. He tells Laura it is a test. If Peter accepts less than half of the company, then he is not his brother. A guest at Lotus Point gets sick with arsenic poisoning.

Abby doesnt want a divorce, and tells Gary that if he doesnt give her the rest of Empire Valley, she will drag out their divorce, and involve Val and the twins. Gary gives it to her. Abby tricks Sylvia into telling her that Peter is not really her son. Abby has Peter escort her to a fundraiser. Gary is there with Jill, so Abby says if Peter doesnt distract her, she will stop paying his attorney. Peter says hell tell about the twins. Then Greg threatens Abby with the twins. Abby, tired of everyone holding this over her declares in front of everyone that she knew about the twins. She knew the twins were alive all along, but didnt want to say anything until she had proof, and as soon as she got it, she was the one who brought Val to the babies. Then Ben steps in and tells everyone its none of their business. Cathy tells Ben shes been offered a tour. Abby brings Olivia home. Eric gets sick and is taken to Intensive Care.

Bens really upset about Cathy leaving. He tells her that he isnt the twins father. He goes to the beach house with a gift for her and they make out. Val is worried because she feels Ben slipping away from her. Jill tells Gary that she cant see him because shes in love with him, but doesnt want to be. Peter apologizes to Sylvia for his threats.Mac finds out that the reservoir at Lotus Point is loaded with arsenic. Abby admits that Galveston dumped arsenic at Empire Valley. Greg tells Laura that Galveston left Gary the land because he knew it was polluted, but he wants to buy it anyway, because he hates to lose. Everyone argues over who is responsible for cleaning up Empire Valley. Gary thinks Greg should, as Galveston dumped the chemicals. Greg thinks Gary should, as his explosion started the leak.

Abby wants Karen to take Gregs deal. Gary and Karen try to figure out a way to clean up Empire Valley themselves. They turn to the EPA, Senator Henderson, and even try to get a loan, but nothing works out. Abby tells Gary that Jills family owned Empire Valley, and that shes only with Gary because she wants Empire Valley back. Later Jill admits to Gary that when she first went out with him, she wanted Empire Valley, but then she fell in love with him. He coolly asks her ""Is that it?"" Senator Henderson is retiring, and Greg thinks Peter should be the next Senator. The Lotus Point groundskeeper dies of arsenic poisoning, and several people cancel their reservations. Karen decides to close Lotus Point. Val tells Ben that she senses something is wrong, and shed like to work through it with him. He says he has a lot on his mind. Cathy asks Ben to go on the road with her and be her manager.

Paige tells Mac she looked him up because her mother Anne died. He invites Paige to stay with them, but she decides not to. Jill and Gary make up. Vals distraught, and goes to the beach house, where she tears up a picture of Cathy and trashes the place. Lilimae, worried about her, calls Gary. Gary finds Val sitting despondently on the beach. They cry together, and then start laughing hysterically. Ben tells Cathy that he cant go with her on tour. She admits that she didnt want to hurt Val, but shes in love with Ben and wasnt thinking straight. Mac is out of his mind with worry about Karen, and has an APB put out to find her. Karen wakes up in a basement. Horrified, she finds she is locked in. She finds a tire iron and attempts to break a window, but a man comes downstairs and tells her not to.

Phil makes Karen cut her hair because he likes short hair better.Ben refuses to spy for Jean. The arsenic levels at Lotus Point are rising. Gary decides to run for the senate himself, against Peter. He thinks that this will pressure Greg to really clean up Empire Valley. Jill agrees to be Garys campaign manager, and this angers Peter. Jill tells Peter that only Gary is important to her now. Mac breaks down to Val over Karen, and Val comforts him. Flashback Scene: Mac, Phil and Greg see Anne on a train, but Mac is afraid to approach her. Greg speaks with her, and she slaps him. Mac apologizes to Anne, and she agrees to go out with him. He falls asleep by her pool while waiting for her to get ready on their first date.

Flashback Scene: Mac tells Phil that the firm he is working for is involved with the mob, but Phil says he has a wife to support. Later Phil is indicted, and asks Mac to lie on the stand, but Mac says he cant. The polls begin to shift in Garys favor. Peter decides to use married Garys affair with Jill against him, although theyve decided to hold off until after the election. Mac has a phony story released that they found the kidnappers fingerprints and know who he is. This makes Phil very nervous, and Greg figures out that he is the kidnapper. Greg confronts him and gives him one day to undo the situation. Phil pours gasoline all over the house and lights a match. As the house starts to go up in flames, Karen discovers a trap door to the attic.

Abby and kids move back to the ranch to help out Garys family image. Gary catches Abby in bed with Peter, but doesnt care. Olivia smokes pot and is suspended from school and steals Abbys car. Shes is in a minor accident and picked up for driving without a license. Gary gets her, and misses a debate. Mac tells Karen about Paige and they invite her to dinner. Roses are delivered from Phil with a card that says ""You wont get away next time."" Greg changes his tires and gives Phils name to police, saying he recognized him from the police sketch. They show his picture to Karen, who IDs him. Mac is shocked. Seeing his picture on TV, Phil shows up at Gregs office and says that police think 2 people were in on the kidnapping, and hell tell police that Greg hired him unless he will help him get out of the country.

Police go to Phils motel, but hes across the street, and people yell to the police where he is. Phil runs into the street, and is hit by a car. At the hospital, Phil tells Mac that Greg was behind the kidnapping, but Mac knows hes lying. Phil dies.Peter is upset with Sylvias drinking, because she talks too much. Sylvia says she wants Peter to get money from Abby for her, or she will tell a tabloid the truth, because she doesnt care who pays her as long as she gets money.Lotus Point has a grand re-opening. Paige spots Peter, and is definitely interested in him. Sylvia makes a drunken spectacle of herself. She has a ""spell"" and asks Peter to pick up a refill of her prescription. The pharmacist tells Peter that if Sylvia takes too many pills, it will cause cardiac arrest so Peter purposely gives her too many. Both Greg and Abby pressure Peter to join certain committees, but he stands up to each of them and refuses.

Jean scratches Gregs car in order to meet him, and later comes on to him. Mac tells Paige he can come to her if she needs money. Paige pawns some jewelry. Peter cant find Sylvia, and calls Jill over to Sylvias. Peter tells Jill about the pills, and shes angry that hes gone too far. Ben, who was going to interview Sylvia, stops by and is suspicious about Jill being there. Sylvia shows up at the ranch telling Abby that Peter tried to kill her. Peter denies it, but Sylvia says shes staying at the ranch until Abby finds her new accommodation. Gary and Abby sleep together, but he tells her that sex isnt enough anymore. Jill wont tell Gary what her relationship to Peter is, so he gives her an ultimatum. Jill tells Peter that shes going to tell Gary hes her brother, and Peter flips out. They argue, and Jill accidentally falls over the side of a cliff.

Mac and Karen confront Paige and Michael separately. Paige agrees to stop the affair, but Michael maintains they are in love. Sylvia tells Peter about the letter she gave to her attorney. The producer tells Val that they need the first draft of her script in a few days, so she hires a personal secretary. Ben is afraid he has ties to Jean. Jean tells Ben that if they bury Peter in the media, shell get out of his life. Ben and Mac question the witness, Paul Kelly. They find holes in his story and Ben figures he is working for Jean and confronts her. Greg thinks someone is trying to ruin Peters career, and tells Peter that he and Jills story better match when she wakes up. Jill loses the baby. Jill wakes up and Gary is mad that she requests to see Peter instead of him.

Ben gives Abby his resignation. Greg tells him his job is to keep Peters nose clean. Peter tells Ben that he is not Gregs puppet. Jeans lover asks her what Ben will do if he finds that she is no longer with the CIA. Michael is jealous when he sees Paige fawning over Peter at the Lotus Point Christmas Party and at the mall. He blames Karen. Abby shows up at Peters nude under a Fur Coat. Karen leaves a message for Paiges grandparents, the Winstons. When Karen tells Paige, she flips out and says her grandparents hate her because they hated Mac. Mr. Winston calls Karen and says that shes sick, because Paige is dead. Laura tells Greg she is pregnant, and hes not happy. Olivia buys some drugs, and then Abby and Gary give her a sports car for Christmas. Olivia takes Lilimae for a ride, and they get into an accident.

Mr. Winston flies into town and confirms that Paige really is his granddaughter. Paige is upset to see him. Karen convinces Mac he needs to fly to New York and tell Anne that Paige is alive. Paige cooks a romantic dinner for Peter.Jill admits to Gary that Peter is her brother. Gary thinks she means she is Galvestons daughter. Gary asks Jill to marry him. Abby demands Olivia give her all of her drug paraphernalia, but Olivia gives her baking soda. Gary invites her to AA, but Olivia refuses. Gary tells Abby theyll have to wait until she hits bottom. Abby finds out that Olivia has drained her and Brians bank account, has been skipping school, is failing all of her classes, and didnt pay her tuition. Out of money, Olivia decides to sell drugs, and her dealer hits her when she uses them instead. Abby takes Olivias house and car keys and puts her under house arrest.

Paige tells Karen shed better worry about Annes intentions with Mac. She then packs goes to stay with Peter. Anne tells Mac that hes the only man she ever loved, but didnt tell him she was pregnant, because she found out her father paid him $5,000 to leave her. Mac says that isnt true. She says shes afraid shell fall in love with Mac again. Karen is jealous of Annes looks, and they talk uncomfortably while waiting for Paige. Anne says Paige did this to bring her and Mac back together and she is snide to Karen. Olivia goes to AA with Gary, and apologizes to Brian. Abby still wants to postpone the divorce, but Gary says no. Jean has Ben bug Gregs office. They hear Peter ask Greg where he sent Sylvia on vacation, but Greg wont tell him. Then Jean calls and says she wants Ben to break into Gregs computer.

Paige accepts a job at Lotus Point. Anne asks Karen to arrange for her to live at Lotus Point. Greg and Laura disagree about her having the baby, so she moves back to the cul-de-sac. Abby opens a nightclub at Lotus Point. Peter asks Abby to the opening, but tells Paige it is only for PR purposes. Ben refuses to kill Greg, and Jean says shell kill his family. After someone tries to run Val off the road, Ben tells her that he was part of a subversive group that bombed a building and an innocent man was killed. Ben says they want him to kill Greg. Ben and Val decide to run away. Val wont tell Lilimae what is up. Ben is being followed, and steals a car to lose them. Val, Lilimae, and the kids follow Bens plan to meet him secretly. As they drive away, Jean pulls up next to them in her car.

Val and the kids are brought home in a catering van. Val is frantic about Ben. Mac hires bodyguards posing as construction workers to protect Val and instructs Val to say that Ben is on a business trip. Lilimae asks Karen if she knows whats going on as Ben had her close her bank account, they drove around in a stolen car, then in a Catering van all night, and now there are 2 carpenters at the house who arent doing anything. Karen asks both Mac and Val what is going on, but neither will tell her anything. Gregs death is in the paper. Abby rushes to Peters and says hed better be prepared to take over Galveston Industries and pressures him to make a public statement. Gary and Jill had planned to marry in Las Vegas, but he postpones it. Val goes to the ranch to comfort Laura, then Greg walks in, and Val suddenly wonders if Ben is dead.

Ben is upset that Greg sent Jean to Paraguay instead of pressing charges. He is ultra paranoid and thinks he sees Jean everywhere. Greg fires Ben. Jill questions Gary about whether she comes first in his life. Olivia joins Peters Youth Commission against drugs. She admits to Paige she has a huge crush on Peter.Abby and Paige vie for Peters affection. To win his affection, Paige tells Peter that Sylvia gave Olivia a letter, and that he can use Olivias crush on him to get the letter back. Peter sends Olivia flowers, thanking her for her help. Anne rents Lauras house, and hangs out at the MacKenzies. Karen doesnt like this, and tells Anne to stop coming on to Mac because she doesnt stand a chance. Anne sends herself a package, but has is delivered to the MacKenzies. When Mac brings it over, she tells him she wants him to stay and get reacquainted.

Anne is rushed to the hospital, but the doctor says shes fine. Paige tells the McKenzies that its only a stunt, but Mac says its still a cry for help. Guilty, he is extra nice to Anne, which doesnt sit too well with Karen. Sylvia is dead, so Peter really comes on to Olivia, giving her a locket and even kissing her. Olivia leaves lots of messages for Peter, which Peter and Paige make fun of. Michael tells Olivia that Paige is dating Peter, but Olivia says Paige would have told her because they are best friends. Gary and Jill plan to go away, but they meet Peter at the airport picking up Sylvias body. Thinking it is Jills mother too, Gary decides they should stay in town. Ben flips out when Lilimae turns off the security system, and she and Val are really worried about his paranoid behavior.

Laura has a baby girl - 8lbs, 3 oz! Anne goes back east. Mac asks Greg if he could be Paiges father, but Greg insists he never slept with Anne. Jill intercepts Olivias letter for Peter and burns it. Paige thinks she and Peter are getting married. Peter tells Abby that hed rather marry her. Abby tells him to dump Paige. After he does, Abby tells Peter to take a hike. Mac and Karen tell Paige that Greg may be her father. Crying, she says Anne was just being vindictive, but thinks this is why Peter broke it off with her. Ben tells Val that his obsession is ruining the family, and she thinks he has come back to his senses. Ben makes plans to leave the country, but tells Val he got a job in South America. Ben asks Mac to keep an eye on the family, and tells Gary that hes glad hes glad that the twins have him as security, in case something should ever happen to him. Ben leaves for his ""job"" in a taxi, but one gets the feeling he is really leaving forever......

Val tells Lilimae that she knows Ben went after Jean Hackney and is not coming back. Mac tells Paige that he called Anne, and Anne admitted Mac really is her father. Peter cant reach Greg, but is more interested in playing with Meg than finding him. Abby hears that cement is going to be poured for the new Childrens playground at Lotus Point, so Abby decides to bury Peter there. With several interruptions and near misses of getting caught, Abby buries Peter, only to dig him up for his car keys and rebury him. She brings his car to the airport and takes the bus home. Olivia tells Abby she is not worth what Abby did (meaning Abby shouldnt have killed him.) Abby, thinking Olivia means she shouldnt have buried Peter on her behalf, assures Olivia that she did it for her, and that no one will ever know. The cement is poured in the childrens park, and Karen and Abby go to inspect it. Karen points out that there is a structural crack in the cement, and it will need to be done over....

Laura tells Greg that Richard has remarried and shes going to bring the boys to visit him. Jill tells Gary about memories of Peter growing up. Police find Olivias locket on Peters body, but dont know who ""OC"" is. Police question everyone at Lotus Point, and several people tell them about Abbys fight with Peter. Abby explains it was just a spat, that she felt Peter was taking up too much of Olivias time on the drug committee. A lot of people personally suspect Abby. Olivia doesnt want to go to the funeral, but Abby tells her it would look suspicious. Gary hears Olivia begging Abby not to make her go inside. Gary tells Abby that he thinks Olivia killed Peter and Abby is covering for her. Abby slaps him.

Laura returns home and tells Greg she left the boys with Richard. Jills angry that Gary doesnt think Abby killed Peter, and she tells him to stay out of the investigation.Out on bail, Olivia tells Gary that Abby killed Peter because of her. Gary laughs with relief, because he knows that Olivia didnt kill him. Gary calls and tells Abby, who then sits down with Olivia to talk. They explain how they each thought the other had killed Peter, and laugh and cry and hug. They go to the police and tell the truth. Paige continues having nightmares, and Mack asks her about her friendly phone messages to Peter. He asks her to tell him everything that happened at her last meeting with Peter.

Laura has an inoperable cancerous brain tumor. Greg drags her from Doctor to Doctor, who all say the same thing. Laura finally tells Greg he needs to accept it. Laura takes Karen shopping and buys dresses for Megs 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th birthdays. Karen guesses Laura is dying and is very upset. Laura asks Mac and Greg to be Megs godparents. Greg is late to the Christening, as hes outside in his car sobbing. Laura makes a schedule for Greg to follow with Meg, such as when to get her a library card. She tells him that if hes great to Meg, itll make up for all the times Greg was rotten to her. Gregs furious that Laura wants to go to a clinic to die - he wants to be there for her. She says she doesnt want him to see her die or remember her that way. Greg is devastated as Laura packs. She leaves some video tapes in a hatbox. Meg is crying, and Laura brings her to Greg. She watches Greg feed Meg, and then gets into her car, and drives away crying.

Eric visits and has a surprise - hes married! Karen doesnt like his wife Linda. She also doesnt like Michaels new girlfriend Jody. Val invites Gary to dinner, and after the twins are asleep they kiss passionately, but he leaves. Abby meets Charles for lunch and asks him if leaving her was the worst mistake he made in his life. He says hes the most miserable man in the world. Flashback Scenes: Young Abby meets Charles when Sid fixes his car. He asks her out, but is angry that she wont sleep with him. She eventually gives up her virginity to him, and tells Karen she is going to marry him. Later, Karen shows her the Society Page, which has an announcement of Charles marrying someone else. Charles explains to Abby that Judith will be a more appropriate wife for him, and theyll all be happier in the long run, but hed like Abby to continue to be his mistress. Abby leaves him, but is devastated.

Everyone gathers at Gregs, who pretends he is fine. Richard shows up with the boys, and says it is very telling that Laura chose to die alone rather than with them. Val is furious that Karen didnt tell her Laura was dying, and she goes off and screams at everyone that they all treat her like she cant handle anything, but she has news for them - she can. She rejects Karens attempts to talk to her. She later talks to Gary, who is miserable that he always screws up everything in his life. Abby slams everybody to the maid. Mack gets a little drunk and makes unintentionally funny remarks that crack everyone up. Greg and Mac go to pick out a casket. Greg sees an old man who cant afford a nice casket for his wife, so Greg tells the mortician hell pay for the woman to have a top-of-the-line funeral. Mack confronts Greg on his lack of emotion, and Greg is offended.

Greg hires Paige to buy him investment art. Charles tells Abby that marrying Judith is a mistake hes lived with for 20 years. She screams that she hates him, but he kisses her and they sleep together. Gary and Val make love. She feels guilty about Jill, and rejects Gary after he helps her and the twins decorate the tree. Val tells Gary it was a mistake and she doesnt want him coming over anymore. He storms out. Gary tells Jill that he doesnt love her, but wishes he did. Jill confronts Val, and tells her that she could give Abby lessons in manipulation. Jill moves out of Garys but then returns. Greg drops Meg off at the MacKenzies, saying he has business in New York.

Johnny wants to blackmail Paige for helping her with her fake death, but she tells him everyone already knows. Mack invites Johnny to stay with them, much to Paiges chagrin. While Karen is out of town, Meg gets really sick. Pat comes to the rescue and tells the hospital whats wrong in medical terminology. Mack asks if shes a nurse, but she says no, the same thing happened to Julie. Paige tells Greg about what happened, and he and Mack stay with Meg at the hospital. Greg sings to her. Karen rushes back, and Greg and the McKenzies realize what a bond Mac and Karen have to Meg. Meg is okay. Judith comes to town, and Abby is upset that Charles jumps at her every command. Judith tells Abby he will never leave her, and Charles packs to go home with Judith. Abby is really angry. At the last minute, Charles decides not to go home, and asks Abby to marry him.

Judith and Charles dont want to divorce until a merger goes through, so Abby enlists Gregs help to mess it up. Judith secretly tapes Abby, and tells Charles that Abby used inside information. Charles says he doesnt care - he loves Abby. Michael fends off Jodys advances and tells her he doesnt love her. Shes very upset. The MacKenzies have the Williams over for dinner, and Frank acts strange. Mack is sure Frank is a cop. Its too late for Gary to appeal for paternal rights to the twins, so Jill draws up an official sounding letter for Val to sign, naming Gary as the twins father. Vals upset and decides to get her own attorney. When Gary comes to visit, Val goes off, screaming that he is not the twins dad, and to never come back.

Paige continues to be jealous of Gregs interest in other women and sleeps with Johnny. The MacKenzies are suspicious of the Williams and speculate that Frank and Pat dont have custody of Julie. They see a woman come and pick Pat up in the middle of the night. Karen and Mack tell the truth in their depositions, and convince Val to tell the truth, that Gary wants visitation, not custody. Charles suggests to Abby she expands the marina at Lotus Point. He loans her the money, not telling her he is the front for investors. Charles gives her plans he had drawn up, but Abby finds they were made before he came back into her life. She hires a detective to investigate him. Charles divorce is final, so Abby wants to get married ASAP.

Paige tells Johnny that hes just for sex, and she wont go out with him. Abby loans Lotus Point the $2 million to build the marina. Olivias really upset that Abby called off the wedding, and yells at her for stealing husbands and not keeping a man or giving her a normal life. The MacKenzies are very upset and miss Meg terribly when Greg brings her home. Greg builds a playhouse for Meg, but realizes how tough it will be to raise her. Upset, he brings Meg back to the MacKenzies and asks them to be Megs parents. He wants them to tell Meg about Laura, but says he will stay out of their life. Seeing how upset Mack and Karen are without Meg, Val has a change of heart. She signs the paper saying Gary is the twins father. She gives it to him and says she knows he loves them, and would want him to raise them if anything ever happened to her. He says shes a good mother and rips the paper up. They hug.

Paige starts to work for Greg exclusively, and is frustrated when he doesnt pick up on her hints that shed like to date him. A man cant pay Johnny and Harold money he owes, and gives him a diamond bracelet. Harold roughs him up anyway. Harold gives the bracelet to Olivia, saying it was his grandmothers, and encourages her to respect Abby. Gary invites the twins to a sleepover, and makes Jill stay in the guestroom. They dont include her as they play, and she starts drinking again. Pat is a doctor, and is testifying against another doctor who had mob ties and was a drug dealer. At her testimony, a man stabs her but only gets her arm. Karen and Mac see this on the news, and when Pat returns with a bandaged arm, they realize that she is the doctor. Val gets a letter that says ""Out of Danger. I love you and will see you soon. Love Ben.""

Gary confronts Jill on her drinking, and calls her sick when she tries to get him to drink with her. Karen is shocked when Manny tries to kiss her. In Mexico, Paige meets Debby, an archeology student, who tells them of a pre-Colombian dig. Paige tells Greg she can get him statues, and he agrees to finance it. Paige is upset to find Johnny in bed with Debbie, but they make up. Manny sends a goon to Mexico to stop the wedding. Harold breaks up with Olivia, blaming it on his uncle. Harold tells her his uncle is dangerous, and he cant cross him. Olivia goes home and cries on Abbys shoulder, and Abby agrees to talk to Manny about letting Harold date Olivia. Olivia goes to Harold, and Manny knocks on the door so he hides her in the closet. Manny tells him he has to leave, as Abby said if he doesnt send Harold packing, Abby will back out of the yacht deal. Olivia hears the entire conversation.

In Mexico, Johnny has orders from Manny to make sure the archaeological dig doesnt stop highway construction. Paige wants the highway stopped to find art. Hoping to stop it, she buries one of Gregs pre-Colombian statues for the students to dig up. Johnny sets the encampment on fire. Karens furious that Mack is checking out Manny, and thinks its out of jealousy. Frank tells Mack that the yachts are a front for bringing cocaine in from Mexico, but they dont have enough proof to hold up in court. Val listens to the tape from Ben over and over. Jill steals the key to Vals house and replaces the tape with a blank one. Olivia is found passed out at Harolds after overdosing on pills. Abbys very upset and waits at the hospital with Karen and Gary. Olivia wakes up and screams for Abby to get out. They doctor tells Abby that its better if she doesnt visit Olivia.

Mack doesnt believe Manny works for the government, and finds out he is a gun runner. Gary and Abby decide to come up with a plan.In Mexico, strange things happen on the site so the director closes it down. Paige talks to the reporter, and as the reporter drives away, her car blows up. Pat invites Val to watch videos and says shell send Julie over to baby-sit after dinner. Jill tells Gary she is going to a conference in San Francisco. Wearing a disguise, she buys a junket car and hides a gun in it. On the plane and at the conference, Jill introduces herself to lots of people. She seduces a man named David, and slips a pill into his drink. She takes him to her room where he passes out. Jill undresses him and messes up the bed. She calls Gary, then tells the hotel operator to hold her calls until the next morning. Jill flies back to Los Angeles and dons another disguise. She drives to Vals in the junket car, and lets herself into the house.

Karen tells Abby and Gary that Michael and Paige are being held hostage, so they clear the marina. Mac goes to Mexico. He is beaten up by Mannys men and tied up in a room with Chavas. Manny and Harold have Mac call Karen to let them unload the drugs with no interference. Manny has Harold guard Mack. Mack tells him Manny uses him because hes stupid. Chavas frees himself and a ruckus ensues. Chavas is shot. Manny is going to shoot Mack, but Harold implores him not to. Manny ignores him, so Harold shoots Manny. Frank finds Val and she is rushed to the hospital. Gary keeps vigil and calls Jill and tells her Val will be okay. Jill is extremely upset. She comes home and goes to the hospital. Val is in the psycho ward, and her nutty roommate screams at Jill, ""I know what I know!"" Jill tries to damage Vals IV tube, but the roommate stops her.

Stuck in the truck, tempers flare and an old man dies. Mac finally finds the truck and frees everyone. He calls Karen who prepares a welcome home dinner. Home, Mac tells everyone that Harold saved his and the kids lives, and even Abbys nice to him. The police come by and say they found cocaine at Lotus point. At the dinner, Johnny finally drops his fake accent. Everyone treats Val with kid gloves. She yells that she did not try to kill herself and stomps out the door. Jill tells Gary that shes really scared of Val. Val sleeps with a big knife. She awakes when she hears a noise, and searches the house. She sits up the rest of the night holding her knife.

Greg sleeps with Paige. Abby hires Ted Melcher change Lotus Points bad image. Tyler sends his video tape to the Williams to blackmail them. He goes to Pats bank and demands a cashiers check for $100,000. Mac follows him and discovers that he is an actor, and is working alone. Posing as a director, Mack calls Tyler to read for him. The ""script"" is a blackmail confession, and Mack tapes it. Mack demands Tyler give back the money. Tyler admits he worked at the hospital where Pat was a doctor, and knew she went into hiding. Then he saw her recently in a mall. Mack tells him to move back east, or he will give the tape of the confession to the police.

Garys really upset with Jill. She tells him her affair was with David Lamb. Val meets with David, but he denies the affair. Jill tells Gary she can prove it, and meets David at a restaurant to talk about their affair, while Gary sits nearby to listen. Gary tells Val that Jill really did have an affair. Abby hires Harold at Lotus Point, but then plants cocaine in his locker. Harold is arrested and tells Mac he was set up.Greg makes a romantic dinner for Paige, and buys her an antique Persian bowl. Abby and Gary convince Karen to sell Lotus Point, that its going bankrupt, and they cant turn around its image. Karen reluctantly agrees. Abby discovers that there is oil on Lotus Point. The resort is sold to a Japanese company, Morikame, which is really owned by Abby.

Harold and Olivia discuss marriage. Mack, feeling old, takes a leave of absence. He drives Karen crazy, and she suggests he go camping in the mountains. Anne tells Paige that her grandfather cut Paige out of the will and shes cutting her off too. Paige says she doesnt care, because Greg loves her. Anne replies, ""Yeah, and Im the Queen of England!"" Greg tells Abby their marriage will be a political one, since they can go twice as far together. He says they can appreciate each others devious, conniving brains like no one else. Abby agrees to marry him. Greg gets home, and Paige is asleep in his bed. He watches her for awhile and then leaves.

Olivia discovers that Abby planted the cocaine in Harolds locker, and threatens to use it to ruin Gregs political career, so Abby agrees to drop the charges. Harold and Johnny get an apartment together. Jill continues to leave and come back. Irritated, Gary makes a hotel reservation for her and tells her not to come back. Carlos, who likes Paige, asks Greg if hes really going through with the wedding. Greg decides to move Paige to the corporate office. Paige uses Ted to make Greg jealous, and sends him a croquet set. He angrily tells her to quit pulling stunts. Before the wedding, Paige makes one more plea to Greg. He tells her that she can do better than him, hed only hurt and disappoint her. Abby and Greg get married.

Michael likes Ellen, a classmate, but she likes Johnny.Jill buys a wedding gown. Gary is arrested for breaking into Jills apartment, but Jill tells the police to let him go because Gary just cant accept their breakup. Mac finds the forger, but shes comatose and dying in the hospital. Gary, the MacKenzies and Williams wonder why Jill had gotten barbiturates, and remember that Val hadnt had her prescription filled. Pat says if a barbiturate is mixed with alcohol, it will knock someone out. Mack and Gary go to see David Lamb, who admits to them that all he remembers is going to Jills room, and then waking up the next day.

Olivias very upset that Abby wants to take Meg. Mack and Karen get an attorney. Ted wants to use the custody case for publicity, but that disgusts Greg. Later Ted and Abby tell Gregs story to a reporter, but ask him not to reveal his source. Julie falls off Garys horse and breaks her arm. A ranch hand tells Gary his saddle had deliberately been cut. Gary goes to Jill and screams at her that he will not allow her to hurt Val or the twins. Jill sneaks into Garys house and waits for him in bed, but is upset when he doesnt come home. Gary sleeps in his car outside of Vals. Jill drives by and sees his car. Pat goes to the ranch and sees Jill spying on Gary with binoculars. She runs to tell Gary. Pat is shaken up to find that Jill cut the saddle and Julie could have died. Gary comforts her.

Paige leaks a story that Greg is still fighting for Megs custody, and he loses the election. Abby says hell have to go for an appointed position. Gary is arrested for Jills murder. Coroner says cause of death is asphyxiation on vomit. Police find fibers of Garys skin under Jills nails, and Gary has scratches on his neck. Police say a witness called and said they saw Gary put the body in the trunk and gave his description and license plate number. Gary gets out on bail, and Pat tries to cheer him up. Gary tells Mac that when he was at Jills he told her to stop hoping they would be together. He tells her, ""not only do I not love you, I absolutely hate you. I hate the sight of you, I hate your voice, I hate the way you smell, I hate your mannerisms...."", etc. Jill cries as he leaves and grabs his neck and scratches him. Jill tries to kiss him and Gary pushes her back and leaves.

Abby will have to file environmental reports to drill for oil at Lotus Point. Abby asks Ted to work for Morikame, but not to tell Greg. Evidence mounts against Gary. The key to his car is found with Jills print on it. Bobby shows Karen some rope tricks. She recognizes the ""clove hitch"" which is the knot on the ropes tying up Jill. It is a trick knot, and they realize Jill tied herself up. They find out Jill took 3 books out of the library that explained how to do this knot. Mac and Karen recreate how Jill could have killed herself, and a fingerprint in Garys trunk confirms this. All charges against Gary are dropped. Pat hugs Gary, making Frank jealous. Gary and Val hug for a long time, making Pat jealous.

Ellen thinks Michael is slacking off working on their computer program because hes jealous. She tells Johnny about the program. Michael introduces Karen to Paula. Paula agrees to help Karen with environmental reports, and Karen has her for dinner. Seeing Mac, Paula is uncomfortable.Ginny pushes Val to find herself a man. Ted tells Greg the President is going to appoint a new trade representative in Japan, and Greg wants Ted to get it for him. Greg wants to meet with Morikame about getting them oil permits, so Abby hires an actor to play Mr. Nogata. Paige hires Mr. Toya to verse Greg in Japanese business protocol. Paige takes an ""out of order"" sign off the elevator and Abby gets stuck for 2 hours. Later Abby tells Greg that he offended Nogata, and passed on his deal.

Michael and Ellens professor tell them their program is plagiarized from a program donated by Greg, and puts them on probation. Greg tells Michael he bought it from Johnny. Michael tells Greg he is going to sue him. Paula admits to Michael shes in love with a married man, but doesnt tell him its Mac. Paula and Karen go back to Lotus Point, but theres no sign of the oil drillers. Abby gives Nogata money to go back to Japan, but he blackmails her for more. Paige follows Nagata, and sees Ted give him a briefcase of money. She still follows, but loses him at a red light. Home, Paige sees on the news that Nagata was killed. Just then Ted comes by and tells her he was killed. Paige asks how he knew and he says he saw it on the TV in the lobby. Gary continues talking with Sallys friend. Ginny buys Val a computer, and hires Danny Waleska to teach her how to use it. He and Val go out to lunch.

Greg meets with the Secretary of State about the job in Japan. Mac, Karen and Paula decide to sue Morikame and to find out who owns it. Gary and Sallys friend decide to meet at a store. He hears her but then the twins run up to him with Val and Danny. Abbys Morikame atty., Rick Hawkins, tells Abby she didnt get the oil permits, and if her former partners find out she owns Morikame, she could be imprisoned for fraud. She asks Rick to predate her documents, but not to tell Ted. Abby then sleeps with Ted and asks him to pose as Morikames owner, and shell give him half the oil profits. Ted agrees, and they sign the papers. Abby wants the original documents, but Rick says he shredded them. Paige snoops at Abbys and then tells Rick that Ted and Abby are setting him up. Rick later sends some documents to Paige at Sumner Group, but Abby throws them away. Rick is dead in his bathtub, electrocuted by a hairdryer.

Greg owns Paiges apartment building, and tells the manager to let her live there rent free, but not to tell her he arranged it. Abby gives a press conference saying she bought Lotus Point in order to stop the oil drilling, and she is donating it to the government as a wildlife preserve. Olivia moves into Harolds, so Abby takes back her car and all her credit cards. Paige tries to find the post office box that Ricks key is to.Ted goes up to Paige in her parking garage and says that Greg and Abby are trying to kill him. A car tries to run him down, but misses. Karen and Mac decide to get away to the mountains, and Karen invites Paula to ride along.The Secretary of State announces that Abby is to be the new trade representative to Japan. Gregs angry tells her he had Morikames oil permits denied. Abby asks Karen to keep an eye on Olivia. Then Abby and Brian pack and drive off, singing ""Dont Worry, be Happy.""

Not knowing whether to trust Greg or Ted, Paige finally chooses Ted and has him bring her home. He wants her to give him the key, but she gives him a fake one. She finds out Rick had a cabin in Spring Lake, so she drives up there. The post office is closed, so she gets a hotel room. Ted also drives up to Spring Lake and waits in a bar for the post office to open. Greg shows up with a big goon, and demands Ted give him the key. Val doesnt believe Danny is sick when he cancels a date with her, so she brings him chicken soup. Shes relieved to find out he really is sick. Gary continues to talk to Sallys friend. They agree to meet. While on the phone, Gary hears a man come in and Sallys friend yelling at him to leave, and then screaming ""NO!"" and a lot of noises. Then the phone goes dead.

Karen is upset that Mac and Paula shared a hotel room, but he assures her nothing happened. Eric takes a job in Saudi Arabia, and asks if Linda can live with Karen. Sallys friend turns out to be Amanda, the twins nursery school teacher. Danny and Val sleep together, and then Danny goes to Amandas, whom he also has a relationship with. Harold and Olivia fight over their finances. Greg tells Paige he misses her and wants her to come back to work. Paige is furious that Greg sends Ted to Japan instead of having him arrested. Riding down in the elevator, Paige and Ted slap each other. Ted tells Paige shes Gregs weakness because he loves her, and she should take advantage of that.

Gary goes to Vals and asks Danny for Amandas number. Danny says Amanda is his wife, which upsets Val. Danny says theyve been separated for 9 months. Val tells him she wants nothing more to do with him. Amanda goes to see Gary. Paige wont go out with Greg, and hes really frustrated. Ginny takes the twins to see her friend Jeri at her office at Oakman Industries. While there, Jeri steals $17,000, and Ginny is arrested as an accessory. Oakmans attorney, Mark Baylor tells Mac they wont prosecute Jeri if she returns the money. Jeri refuses because they dissolved her pension, and says shell only return the money if all pensions are restored. Mac thinks its fishy that Oakman doesnt want to prosecute. Then Jeri is found splattered on the sidewalk below her apartment window.

Ginnys off the hook when the money is found in Baylors apartment. Baylor asks Mac to defend him, and says Oakman is setting him up because they dont want their books made public. Going through Jeris jewelry, Ginny finds the money. Greg gives Paige his biggest client - the Richfield account. Paige meets Tom Ryan. Greg brings Paula to a company party, but Paula accuses him of using her to make Paige jealous. Paige sees Tom at the party, and they flirt and make love in the elevator. Michael doesnt have a date, so Linda offers to go with him, and they pretend she is ""Theresa"". Later they realize they are very attracted to one another. Dannys upset as Amanda gets ready for a date with Gary. Gary asks Amanda to go away for a weekend, but not to tell Danny.

Paige goes to see Tom at the police station, and he tells her they wouldnt work out. Oakman again tells Tom to break it off, or something could happen to Paige. Mark asks Karen to convince Mac not to investigate Oakman, because Mac could get hurt. Mark pleads guilty and gets 3 years. Danny is upset when he is served with divorce papers. Amanda tells Danny that all she wants is her grandmothers dishes, so he breaks them. Danny brings Val to hear Amanda sing. In front of Val and Gary, Amanda and Danny have a huge argument and scream at each other because Danny wants Chester in the divorce. When Amanda gets home, Chester is gone so she goes to Dannys. Danny locks Chester in the bathroom and rapes Amanda.

Gary convinces Amanda to go to the police and report that Danny raped her. She does, but because she went to Dannys of her own free will and took a shower, theres no evidence. Danny calls Val and says Amanda is accusing him of outlandish things, but his lawyer said this is common in a divorce. Amanda and Gary try to convince Val that Danny is a rapist, but she thinks Amanda is being vengeful, and wont believe it. Gary calls Danny and says Amanda is making up horrible things about him, and they should get her psychiatric help. Danny agrees, so Gary invites him to the ranch. Gary locks Danny in the stable and goes after him with a baseball bat. Danny is cowering and whimpering in a fetal position, and then Gary unlocks the door and asks Danny if he enjoyed it.

Mac discovers that Pomerantz is dead. He finds the doctor who signed his death certificate works for Oakman, and is Pomerantzs uncle. Mac pushes the doctor, who finally admits that Pomerantz is alive and living in Canada. Val tells Amanda she wont get away with her false accusations. Ginny has a ""psychic"" feeling that Danny did rape Amanda, and agrees with Gary to never leave him alone with the twins. Eric tries to work things out with Linda, who says she no longer loves him. Mac and Karen confront Michael. Eric overhears and punches Michael. Eric packs and leaves. Linda moves out to her apartment, and Michael decides to move in with Harold.

The DA says hell look into the pension fund. Mac discovers that Greg owns Oakman Industries. Greg gives a press conference saying he fired Oakman and will restore the pension fund. Olivia makes a profit. Karen talks to her and explains that Harold is under a lot of pressure to provide for her, and she decides to give him another chance. Harold loses even more of Michaels money in a poker game. Michael asks for the money back, because he needs it for a condo hes buying. Mary Francis comes to see Greg. She was working in a third world country, but came back to the states to research bio-genetics. Greg is really happy to see her and they spend time together. Mary Francis goes to Gregs office. He steps out to speak to his secretary when they hear a shot. Mary Francis has been shot in the head!

Both Michael and a bookie pressure Harold for money. Harold asks Mac to loan him $13,000, but when Mac hears how much money Gary has already given him, he says no. Harold calls Tom and says he knows who he works for, but will keep it a secret if he helps him out financially. Greg gets drunk, and the ghosts of Mary Francis and Galveston follow him around. Worried, Carlos calls Paige, but then Paula shows up. Jealous, Tom follows Paige to Gregs. Paige is angry, but Tom says hes never been in love before, and they make up. Carlos gives Greg floppy discs that Mary Francis had in Gregs computer. Police discover where the sniper shot from and due to garbage on the site, think he was there a long time, so Greg wasnt his target, Mary Francis was.

Paige and Tom make up, and she wont believe he is crooked until Mac gives her proof. Mac find out the Oakman chemicals are used in agriculture, but banned in the US because they cause liver cancer. When the chemicals were banned, Oakman used the pension funds to start a new company in Africa. Oakman is found dead. Eric visits and he and Michael make up. Linda is hired at Sumner Group. Karen and her ""Open Mike"" producer Dianne dont get along. Paige and Paula keep vigil over Greg, who is paralyzed and needs an operation. Police guard Gregs hospital room. Mary Franciss boyfriend Robert goes to the hospital and climbs in Gregs window. Robert tells Greg he is going to inject him with the chemicals Greg made, so he will suffer like his victims. Robert says Mary Francis was dying of this, so he killed her to publicize the plight, and then killed Oakman. Robert injects the chemicals into Greg, then gives himself up to the police.

Dianne tries to force Karen to quit. Linda is assigned to work with Michael. Paula tries to get Greg to follow doctors orders about changing his diet. Anne shows up and they ignore Paula. The twins tell Gary that Danny said Gary didnt love them. Danny tells Val she spoils the twins, and shes upset at him punishing them. Val discovers Danny was married before Amanda to Christine Ahern. She calls her father who says Danny beat and raped his daughter. Since Gary has the twins, Val goes to Macs office. Hes not there, so she waits and leaves a message for Gary to call her there. Danny comes in and hears Gary leave a message for Val. Danny explodes and calls Val names. He forces her onto the desk and tries to choke her. Val stabs him with a letter opener to get away. He screams that shes a bitch.

Harold calls and tells Michael he will pay him back. He apologizes to Olivia and declares his love. She decides to join him in Miami. Pat takes a job as an aide at a hospital and applies for her medical license. Frank decides to leave, but Julie wont go with him. Jeff and Dianne warn Karen about becoming too friendly with her fans. A man sends her a rose and requests a nude photo. Paige is jealous and disgusted with Gregs interest in Anne. Tom proposes to Paige. The Police tell Val that she cant make Danny leave without a court order. She takes Ginny and the twins and they stay at Garys ranch. Danny changes the locks and tells his lawyer he wants the house in their divorce. Danny gets drunk and throws Vals possessions out the window. He taunts Gary and Val as they gather her things off the lawn.

Gary loves being a family, and Val is happy too. Karen is still being followed by Wayne, and he steals her sunglasses. Mac is concerned about a fan stalking her. Diane hires a security guard for Karen - Wayne. Dianne and Jeff break up. Tom gives Paige an engagement ring in a ""Happy Meal"". Greg then gives Paige a HUGE diamond, and suggests they live together. She gives it back to him. Greg is truly upset over Paiges engagement, and hires a detective to get him information on Tom. Pat is rushed to the hospital, and is in a coma. Frank goes to the jail to see Danny. Frank grabs him by the neck and says if he gets out on bail, Frank will be his worst nightmare. Later Dannys attorney posts bail. Pat wakes up, and she and Frank declare their love. Later Pat has a blood clot and goes into another coma.

Danny serves Gary with a restraining order, so Gary starts following him around and hires detectives to follow Danny when he cant. Tom and his partner are being investigated. Tom checks his bank balance and is shocked to find $103,000.Anne tells her accountant that she didnt tell Paige about the trust fund shell get when shes married. The accountant tells her hell send the money when he receives the marriage certificate. Jeff tells Karen that if she quits, Dianne will replace her as the host. Karen receives flowers that have snakes in them. Terrified, she calls Wayne to come over and stay with her. Mac questions everyone at the station. Since Wayne isnt there, he goes to his apartment, where the landlady is doing some repairs. He sees Waynes ""monument"" to Karen.

Julie shoots Danny but misses. Frank hears and talks her out of it by telling her not to become like Danny. Pat is taken off life support and dies as Frank sings to her. Michael and Linda sleep together, and he tells Karen that he is going to marry Linda. Val tells Danny she wants to get back together and will run away with him. He agrees and drives off in Vals car. Hes pulled over and police tell him the car was reported stolen, and they arrest him. Val and Gary, watching from a distance, hug. Anne faxes a fake marriage certificate to the accountant, and sets it up to be wired to her own account she set up in Paiges name. Tom and Paige get ready for their wedding ceremony. Greg tells Tom that he set him up, and will only clear him if he leaves the country. Paige is crushed when its discovered that Tom is gone. Gary proposes to Val. Mac and the police find evidence that proves that Dianne has been terrorizing Karen. Dianne goes crazy, and is taken to a psych ward, where they find LS

Jeff is presumed dead. Anns livid that Paiges trust fund didnt go to her account, and she returns Paiges wedding gifts for money. Greg asks Paige to go away on a cruise for him. Claudia asks Gregs doctor if a six-month cruise is safe for him and the doctor says he doubts Greg will live that long. Tom comes back and confronts Greg with a gun to have his charges dropped, and tells Paige that Greg set him up. Paige is still mad. She goes to meet Greg for the cruise and asks if hes really dying, because she wont believe her good fortune until he is dead and buried. Kate gets a scholarship she was hoping for, but Claudia lies and says she didnt get it. Danny lets out all the horses at Garys ranch. When Gary comes to the stable, Danny closes the door behind him and takes out a bat.

Karen is overjoyed to find that Jeff is alive, until he locks her in the station and tries to kill her. He says Wayne was killed in his apartment, and he sent her all the letters. Dianne is there and calls the police. Jeff lies to the police, but Dianne taped the whole thing. Gary calls a frantic Val, and says the airbag saved him, but he kept passing out from the booze. He later talks to Karen, and Karen gives her famous ""Pollyanna"" speech. Paige makes up with Tom and moves in with him. Anne receives compromising photos of herself and a note demanding a million dollars. Danny is found dead and police say his fingers were broken, so theyll have to investigate. The coroner tells Val shes responsible for Dannys body and shes being charged rent until she has his body moved.

Nick suspects Anne of the blackmailing, and says that he is going to stay with her and go wherever she goes. Annes upset that Marco only sent $20,000 for the blackmailer. Paige is angry that everyone at the office thinks she got the promotion for sleeping with Greg. She asks Greg why he treats her like dirt. He asks Paige to marry him, but she walks out. Greg is really starting to get sick. Karen goes back to work. Diane says Karen is an egomaniac, and that she got a new job and cant wait to leave. Police find a button by the pool where Danny was killed. Ginny decides to leave. Gary tells Val that his dreams have all come true and that he cant wait to marry her. They go on a family picnic, and the twins run to Gary yelling that something has happened to Val.

Paige tells Mac she never loved Tom the way she loves Greg. Anne and Nick sleep together. She tells Nick that the blackmailers have called for the rest of the money and shes to meet them alone. Nick switches the briefcase with money to one with a bomb in it. Michael gives Linda an engagement ring. Julie tells the police that Danny showed up drunk when she was swimming. He slapped her and said he was going to have her arrested for trying to shoot him. Julie said she ran to the house with Danny following, and his fingers were broken as she tried to shut the sliding glass door. In pain, he staggered around and fell into the pool and drowned. The police rule Dannys death an accident. Val freaks out when Gary sees her trying on her wedding dress, and accuses him of lying to her when she shows up for the rehearsal dinner on the wrong night. She calls off the wedding.

Jasons father beats him. Anne and Nick take the suitcases to a luggage store and call in a bomb threat. Tom, one of the investigators, notices the suitcase is Annes. He takes it, and with the money buys a one way ticket to Brussels. Anne and Nick go to Toms apartment, but discover hes gone. Linda sucks up to Alex, who works for Calloway. Alex tells Calloway that Sumner Group is ripe for a takeover. Val tells Karen that Gary is messy and smells like a barn. The help tells Gary that Val left and said shell be back when ""hell freezes over"". Kate tells the hospital that Paige is her cousin so she can see Greg. Greg is very happy to see her. Claudia finds out that a liver is going to another patient. Since shes not yet in Gregs will, Claudia tells them if Greg lives, he will donate money for a new wing, so they decide to give the liver to Greg.

Gary rescues the twins. Claudia finds out that Anne married Nick for Paiges money, and uses this to blackmail them into signing Gregs fake will. Annes finds out there is no money left in Paiges trust. Nick has to go to Rome but tells Anne hell be back. Linda tells Greg that Paiges Calloway report was inaccurate, so she made another one. Greg calls a meeting at his hospital room and berates Paige. Furious, she walks out. Alex tells Linda that Greg has cut his company off and is firing their management. Michael wants to get married on New Years eve, but Linda wants to wait. Carlos brings Paige her Christmas gift from Greg - a diamond bracelet. Mac calls the police about Jason, and he is taken away. Mac later finds Jason standing in front of his house, and Mac tells Jason he doesnt have to go in.

Mac lets Jason spend the night, but says thats not a solution. Dick Lochner tells Mac that Jasons lying, and Mac goes off on him. The next night Jason sleeps in the park. Julies teacher Charlotte calls Frank to go to an art exhibit. Not sure if its a date, he brings Peggy. Then Charlotte asks him out for a real date. Linda is really snide to Paige. In a meeting, Linda gives a suggestion that Greg really likes. Paige is fed up with her and complains about Linda to Greg. Karen offers to ""babysit"" Val. Gary goes to the gym, and is happy to ""run into"" Anne. Karen pays for a pizza with Vals money, and finds her pills at the bottom of her purse. Karen shows them to Gary.

Mac and Karen go to court and ask to be Jasons foster parents, but the judge decides he should stay with his dad. Mac speeds off with Jason. He hides him in Vals house, but refuses to tell anyone where he is, so hes arrested. Frank and Charlotte go on a date. The doctor tells Gary that Val isnt responding to medication, but might get better on her own. Mrs. Richfields niece Susie is hired at Sumner Group and does a terrible job. Susie puts through an account Linda was secretly trying to get to Paige, who then takes over the account. Steve asks Kate a lot of questions about her father and Claudia. He accidentally dings Paiges car, and Paige is furious with him and demands he fix it. Steve has a parole officer who says he needs to get a job and stay out of trouble, or hell put him back in prison.

Mac is out of jail, and Jasons returned to his father, who promises to be nice but continues to be as abusive as ever. Jason leaves and his dad follows. Nick tells Anne he was traveling with a rich woman named Betty, and she was supposed to pick something up from her relatives. Anne pretends to be Betty, and the relatives give her a doll. Kate learns Steve is her brother. Linda blows off Michael to flirt with Greg. Val overhears Gary trying to have her committed, and leaves.

Val decides to go back to the hospital for further testing. Anne and Nick finally locate the capsule, and it has a microfiche map in it. Two different parties want it, so they make a copy and sell it to both, for a total of $550,000. They rent Toms apartment. Charlotte tells Frank she doesnt want a serious relationship with him, so he goes on a series of disastrous dates. Claudia makes up a story about who Steves father is, but he doesnt buy it. Linda jumps the gun on a project of Paiges, and Greg reams her out but she decides to still sleep with him. Mac finds out he will be disbarred for hiding Jason. Jason moves into the MacKenzies, and tries to be really perfect and helpful. Mac tells him to just relax and he himself.

Doctors discover that Val has a rare virus that is causing her strange behavior, but its curable. Greg offers Claudia a job as head of his foundation. Mrs. Richfield wants Linda to work on her account with Paige. Paige places a sexy ad on a phone date line and gives Lindas phone number. Steve tells Kate his parents were forced out of their logging business by a big logging company, and his father was killed, and his mother died 6 months later. He said he got drunk and beat up the company representative, and thats why he was in jail. Steve finds out Greg owns the logging company. Jasons paper on an American Hero has won a regional contest, and the final prize is a year abroad in Sweden. Jason doesnt want to read the paper, because its about his father. At the ceremony Jason changes his essay to be about Mac. Michele Lee sings as several clips of Steve Shaw are shown.

Anne proposes a charity for Claudias group to fund - but its really to fund her and Nick. Claudia knows, and tries to delay. Michael decides to quit Sumner Group. Theres a fire in the Sumner Building, and all the exits are sealed off. Most of the people for Val and Garys rehearsal dinner are stuck there until its evacuated. Greg and Linda use the time ""constructively"", and he invites her to move in with him at the ranch. Steve apologizes to Paige and kisses her. Babysitting all the kids, Julie and Jason kiss. Waiting outside of the Sumner Building, Val and Gary decide their rehearsal dinners are jinxed. They have a very tender moment, and Gary even cries. They decide to marry that night. They go to a judge and giggle throughout the ceremony.

Greg tells Steve that hes not entitle to Galvestons money, but gives him $250,000 and says he can either save his logging town or go to the Bahamas. Kate finds out that Claudia lied about her scholarship, and decides to move in with Steve. Julie and Jason go to a party, where a gang stabs their friend Paul. Frank forbids Julie from dating Jason anymore. Brian comes on to Paige and she sees he has a video camera running. She punches him and leaves. Brian then goes to Linda, who agrees as long as she can keep the tape. The next day Brian is missing and so is Lindas tape. Michael buys a van and tells Karen he is leaving to travel the country. Annes landlord kicks her out. She leaves several messages for Paige that she is desperate, but Paige ignores them. Anne stays overnight at a coffee shop drinking coffee.

Kate blames Claudia for setting Steve up. Ann runs into Benny Appleman, who owes her money. He lets her stay with him, and they try to think up some scams. Linda secretly meets with Brian Johnston. Gary meets Joseph Barringer, a professor who is experimenting with how to capture ocean waves to make energy. Gary is excited by the idea, and wants to back him. While in Toronto for business, Paige meets Pierce Lawton, and is smitten. She waits by the phone for him to call, but he shows up at her apartment. Jason, in the hospital, tells Karen the other teens were the gang members who stabbed their friend. Karen tells one of the boys mothers off, and then he dies. People make Karen into a hero for standing up to gang violence.

Pierce is interested in Tidal Energy, and meets with Gary and Joseph. Greg finds out Paige showed Garys proposal to Pierce, and fires her. She decides to work at Tidal Energy too.Greg meets with Joseph about funding him, but he says he wont sell Gary out. Joseph asks Kate to lunch. Paige is embarrased by Annes nude layout.Val tells Lynette she will teach her to read. On ""Open Mike"" Karens viewers laud her as a vigilante hero. Upset, she says she isnt a hero - she met violence with violence, and someone died. Linda tells Brians wife where he is for $50,000. Brian follows her and surprises her at her condo. Hes furious and tells Linda she spoiled everything. He stabs her and cuts her throat.

Greg asks police to pull out the stops in finding Brian, and hires his own detective to find him. Brian is following Greg.Pierce breaks up with his old girlfriend Victoria, and tells Paige about her. Lynette wants Val to help her with her IRS problems, but Val declines, saying shes only helping her to read.Anne decides to do a call-in radio talk show. Frank and Debbie continue dating. Claudia has nightmares of someone needing medication. Kate thinks she faked the suicide, but Karen convinces her to talk to Claudia. Kate makes up with her, but says she still cant live with her.

Annes show is a success, and she tells Benny that shes getting her own apartment. Hes upset because he has fallen in love with her. Joseph quits the University to work full time at Tidal Energy. Joseph and Kate declare their love for one another and sleep together. Debbie breaks up with Frank because she wants a serious relationship. Pierce has nightmares of sailing in a storm with Victoria. Victoria tells Paige that Pierce has a dark side and will turn on her, but Paige doesnt believe her. Victoria tells Pierce she still loves him, and asks if Paige knows about the data list. Pierce tells her to leave him alone. Brian follows Greg to Megs birthday party. After the party, he pulls a gun on Karen and Meg in the backyard.

Meg and Mac have a hard time getting over the hostage situation, but Karen tells Mac she wont live in a high security home, or Brian will have won. Jason wins the essay contest, but doesnt want to go to Sweden. Tidal Energys life sized model doesnt work. Joseph says he can fix it, but it will take a lot of money. Gary decides to mortgage the ranch. Claudia receives an obituary that says Rosa Barth died. Victoria tells Greg she will give him information that will bring Pierce down. She follows Paige around, and Paige finds Victoria in her bed and asks Pierce why shes doing this. Pierce storms out.

The bank hesitates to loan Gary money because of Pierces past. Gary yells at him for not telling him. Greg has a renewed interest in Meg, and Mac and Karen are worried. The Ewings spend Christmas with the MacKenzies, and Val tells Karen she misses living in the cul-de-sac. The power goes out, so they play football and sing carols. Claudia and Kate go to Gregs for Christmas. Greg asks Joseph if he can support Kate, and Joseph is offended. Jason leaves for Sweden on Christmas day. Pierce sees a robe that Anne gave Paige, and is enraged thinking its from Greg. Paige says it isnt, and he tears through her clothes to see what Greg gave her. She tells Pierce to get out.

Joseph quits and Gary is furious and punches him out. Gary has to suspend operations, but Val comforts him and says they still have each other. Joseph asks Kate to go with him, but she wants nothing to do with him. Claudia asks Greg why he got him a job in La Jolla instead of MA, and Greg says he wanted to ruin the company, but didnt want Kate losing her boyfriend. Greg buys a date with Anne at a charity auction. Frank sends Julie back east to live with relatives. Alex goes through Claudias bank book and breaks her artifacts. Claudia cooks him dinner and implies the salad dressing is poisoned. Pierce blames Greg for the loss of the company and his breakup with Paige, and tells Greg he will destroy him. Pierce comes up to Paige at the Tidal Energy Ocean Site, and holds her over the rushing water, but she gets away.

Pierce tells Victoria that if she gives him info on Greg, hell sleep with her. Pierce chats with Claudia about Kate. Pierce goes to Paiges and packs. He throws her against the dresser and tells her hes after Greg. Paige tells Greg to get a bodyguard. Greg and Anne finally sleep together. Greg brings Mary Lou Retton to Megs gymnastic meet. Mac, Peggy and Frank think theyve won the lottery, and search all over for the ticket. They finally find it, but theyd written the numbers down wrong. Gary agrees to run the ranch for the new owner, but is frustrated when they dont see eye-to-eye on how to run it. He quits, so Val sells her wedding ring for money. The jeweler calls Gary, and he buys it back.

Claudia wants Alex to move out. Alex flirts with Vanessa and they almost kiss when Kate walks in. Paige asks Anne to hire Kate at the radio station. Vanessa comes by and sucks up to Anne big time, so Anne hires Vanessa to be her assistant. Val meets with Greg about her book, and Greg is bemused by her earnestness. Pierce tries to ruin Gregs business deal, but it doesnt work. Pierce screams at Greg in a restaurant and is thrown out. Pierce buys a rifle. Paige has dinner with Anne and Greg at his ranch. As they leave, Greg sees Pierce. He pushes Anne and grabs Paige as Pierce shoots.

Val gets a call from a woman telling her she has information about Greg and Meg. Val agrees to meet her, but Gary follows, thinking it could be Pierce setting her up. Alex invites Kate to dinner. Vanessas jealous, but says she knows hes doing it to get ahead with Greg. Anne does her show on Paige, and how much she loves her. Paige cries and tells Anne that she really needed to hear those things, and they decide to start over. Paige dares Greg to tell her he loves her. Paige starts to regain feeling in her leg. During physical therapy in a pool, Greg tells her she gave him a scare, and he starts to say he loves her. An orderly interrupts to bring her to x-ray, but instead takes her to the basement. Pierce is there. The orderly runs off, and Pierce knocks her guard out. He gives Paige a shot. She gets groggy and he carries her to a van.

Mary tells Val that Greg is trying to kill her. Val sees a news story that shes missing, and tells Greg about Mary. Greg calls someone and said that he was to be notified when Mary was let out of prison. Mary watches Meg through the McKenzies window. Greg tells Claudia that he cant focus, and lets her take over. Claudia berates Alex at work, so he takes Kate out and makes out with her. He tells Claudia not to get on him again, or he and Kate might elope. Pierces body isnt found, so the search is called off. Paige is upset that Greg has avoided her since shes home, and she isnt eating or sleeping. Anne and Karen try to get Greg to visit her. Finally Paige goes to see him. He is watching the tape of Laura, and tells Paige that when he was underwater, he saw a tunnel with a light, and Laura told him to go back, but he didnt want to. He tells Paige shes better off without him, that people around him die. She says she didnt, and they kiss.

Pierce pulls a knife on Paige. She jumps out of the car. Alex is there, and punches Pierce out. Pierce is arrested screaming that he loves Paige. Mary returns Meg and tells McKenzies shes Lauras mother. Mary gets a lawyer, Toni Fields, to win visitation rights, but she really wants money. Claudia kicks Alex out. Greg is at a remote cabin, but Anne finds him and tells him shes pregnant. He doesnt want her to keep the baby, and wants her to leave. She wont, so he goes off hiking and Anne follows. Gary is worried when Val doesnt return from Florida, but has checked out of her hotel.

Greg decides to pay off Mary, but she says its not about money. The MacKenzies are mad that she told Meg about the adoption. Claudia gets Vanessa a job at a music television station, and Alex tries to get back with Kate, and then comes on to Paige. Alex decides to go back east. Greg is appointed to a task force to rebuild Los Angeles after the riots. He tells Paige he wants her and Sumner Group to be part of it. Gary is frustrated that he didnt find anything out about Val in Florida. Kate helps to comfort the twins, who are worried. Kate decides to stay at Claudias for awhile. Nick comes back to town. Anne finds out that she isnt pregnant, but is going through menopause.

Kate comforts Gary and the twins about Vals death. Gary and Kate start to kiss, but he says he cant. A memorial service is held, and Betsy runs out, not believing Val is dead. Karens upset over Vals death. Greg appoints Bill Nolan, an ex-baseball player to his commission. Bill antagonizes Paige, but she agrees to go out with him, and to back the sports complex. Anne confides in Mac that she isnt pregnant, but is taking fertility pills. Mac thinks she should tell Greg, but she doesnt. Anne wants Paige to attend the wedding, but she wont, because she still loves Greg. Before the wedding, Greg tells Carlos he feels like hes going to prison, and has a better idea. Greg lets himself into Paiges apartment, but sees her in bed with Bill. Greg then decides to go to the church and marry Anne.

Vanessas scared of being fired, because her ratings are low. She finds Annes fertility pills. Bill receives an offer to play baseball in Japan, and asks Paige to go with him, but she says she isnt in love with him. Gary takes a job overseeing the building of the sports complex. Karens upset that Mac wont talk to her. Karen tells Toni that Mary only wants money. Toni asks Mary, who fires her. Paige cant get the money, so Mac asks Claudias help. She tells him to make up a phony charity for the money. Claudia gets a million dollars, but only gives Mac half, keeping the other half for herself and Nicks restaurant. Mac puts the money in a briefcase with a tracking device. He asks Gary to tape him giving it to Mary. However, the battery in Garys video camera dies, so he takes a battery from a tourist. The tourist, trying to retrieve the battery, blocks Garys shot. Mary walks off with the money.

Kate helps Gary hire a housekeeper, and tells him that she has feelings for him. Vanessas upset that Anne wont give her money. Anne tells Greg she was never pregnant, but that shell be a good wife. Greg tells her it is a marriage of convenience, and she is never to bring up Paige to him. Karen finds a tape Mary made of her meeting with Mac. She hides it and calls police. They put Tom Ryan in charge. Mac burns the tape, but Mary had sent a copy to Toni, which she gives the police. Tom wants to know where he got the money. Claudia tells Tom that Mac filed papers with her for ""Pacific Preservation Co."" and forged her signature to get a million dollars. Police find Macs fingerprints on the ashtray that killed Mary, and they arrest him for her murder.

Greg tells Claudia to return her half of the money or hell make her disappear. Nick gives her the money, but wont tell her how he got it. Nick kisses Anne, but she doesnt want to mess things up with Greg. Gary hires Kate to work on the sports complex. She convinces a couple who are holding up construction to move, but they later change their mind. Kate kisses Gary, but he pushes her away. Out on bail, Mac investigates who killed Mary. Toni decides to help Mac. Gary gets a report that Joe kidnapped Val, so he decides to go back to Florida and asks Kate to watch the twins. Mac wants to go to, but Karen says he would be jumping bail. Mac sneaks out in the middle of the night and leaves Karen a note.

Back from Florida, Gary tells Karen that Mary was really Lauras aunt, and Lauras mother died in childbirth. The police drop the charges against Mac, and they let Joe go. Joe meets with Nick, who tells him he wasnt supposed to have murdered Mary. Then Joe is found dead. Nick tells Vanessa he doesnt want Treadwell coming to town. Nick has Claudia open a bank account for ""Edward Messinger"" and gives her a briefcase of money. Paige asks Mac for his shares of Sumner group, but he says he doesnt care. Kate comes on to Gary again. He says hes not ready and shes pushing him. Mac hires Toni to work with him and says Frank moved to Chicago. Karen is upset that Mac didnt tell her about Florida or hiring Toni. He says talking to her is an inquisition. She decides to leave him and stay with Diana in New York.

Kate is okay. Gary tells her she needs to find someone younger, that he doesnt want any more children. Upset, Kate decides to go away. Claudia agrees to keep her share. Nick says he needs to know Paiges strength and weaknesses, now that she has the McKenzies shares. Tom investigates Kates hit and run, and Paige tells him that there is probably a link to whoever gave Claudia money. Tom, trying to find Nick, meets Vanessa, and they flirt outrageously. Vanessa asks Tom for protection, and tells him Nick is involved with Treadwell. She says she was Treadwells mistress, that he is ruthless and has a huge illegal empire in Europe, and now wants to take over the Sumner Group. Tom tells Nick he wants in on the action, because he can control Paige.

Greg has Claudia and Kate stay at the ranch where hes hired extra security. Claudia sells her shares to Greg so she wont be in danger. Gary tells Kate he wants her in his life and they kiss. Treadwell and his men beat Nick up. Anne tends his wounds and he tells her about Treadwell. A mailboy shoots Greg, but hes wearing a bulletproof vest. Tom brings Paige to his apartment so shell be safe, and they kiss. Vanessa comes by but runs away, and Tom runs after her. Mac goes to New York and tells Karen he loves her, and that their marriage is worth fighting for. Mort tells Greg that the Burton Tech. data base is being ruined by a virus. Paige and Greg decide to fly there to see whats going on. Security guards check the plane, but one of them plants a bomb. Vanessa sleeps with Treadwell and overhears a call that the bomb will go off in 20 minutes. Vanessa calls Tom who calls the airport, but the plane has taken off.

Treadwell is going to shoot Nick, so Vanessa shoots Treadwell. She tells Tom it was in self-defense, so no charges are filed. With Treadwell out of the way, Val is free, and she and the twins have a tearful reunion. Gary tells her about Kate, but says he never loved anyone the way he loved her. Kates upset and decides to go away. Karen and Mac yell at each other, and suddenly realize that things are back to ""normal"" and start to laugh and cry and kiss. Abby tells Greg that she is Treadwells partner, and is taking over Sumner Group, because she has information to blackmail him. Greg has bought information from Nick and Anne that document her and Treadwells illegal dealings, so she cant blackmail him. With the money they made from Greg, Nick and Anne decide to live in Monaco together. At the airport they run into Claudia, who is also moving to Monaco.
