In 1477 Charles the Bolds dies, his only child is a girl which cannot rule w/o a husband. Meanwhile in Austria, Emperor Frederick III and his antagonist Louis XI France battle over said marriage prospects, battles ensue, tragedy falls.

S1E1 - Episode 1 2017-03-01

The Death of Burgundys rich sovereign sets a dangerous game into motion. Since he has no male heirs his beautiful and smart daughter Maria has to marry as soon as possible. Emperor Friedrich needs money to fund his war against Hungary. His son Maximilian is supposed to propose marriage to Maria.

S1E2 - Episode 2 2017-03-01

Put under pressure by French King Louis, the citizens of Ghent storm Maries palace and make her sign a contract in which she agrees to marry Louis son Charles. She sends Joan, her lady-in-waiting, to Maximilian, who is instantly smitten by Maries portrait. Joan returns to Ghent with Maximilians letter announcing his visit. Louis threatens war against Burgundy should Marie breach the contract.

S1E3 - Episode 3 2017-03-02

French King Louis wont allow Marie to bury her fathers body in Burgundy. Instead, he forces her counsellors to accept him as their lawful ruler. When Marie refuses to marry Charles, French troops invade Burgundy, ravaging its provinces. On his journey to Ghent Maximilian has caught the plague. Confined to his sickbed, he is unable to rush to her side and help her fight her numerous enemies.

S1E4 - Episode 4 2017-03-02

When the citizens of Ghent have Maries closest advisors beheaded, she sends Joan, her lady-in-waiting, to Maximilian. He has recovered from the plague, but he is unable to settle accounts with the citizens of Cologne for his stay within their city walls. Therefore, Maximilian and Marie are married by proxy with his confidant Polheim acting as his substitute. Then the couple finally meets...

S1E5 - Episode 5 2017-03-03

Maximilians marriage to Marie turns out to be a happy one. However, the risk of war with France is imminent. Maximilian arms his men and thwarts a conspiracy of the Ghent citizens. However, everything is put to risk when Joans husband finds out that she has an affair with Maximilians confidant Polheim. According to Burgundys law, Polheim faces death penalty.

S1E6 - Episode 6 2017-03-03

Maximilian saves Polheims life and rids himself of the conspirators. In order to dispel rumours that their first-born son is actually a girl, Maximilian and Marie have their son baptized in public. However, as the ducal family leaves the cathedral, Maximilian is stabbed. He escapes death by the skin of his teeth only to confront the young French Prince Charles in the Battle of Guinegate.
