When a coach accident introduces Charlotte to the Parker family, she quickly seizes the opportunity to throw herself into the adventure she has craved all her life by returning with them to the developing seaside resort of Sanditon. Charlotte, however, soon discovers that the inhabitants of the town behave in curious and unpredictable ways that she could never have imagined.

Charlotte sets out to avoid Sidney, until a serious accident forces them together and to reappraise each other. When Tom brings a new doctor to the town, he and Lady Denham clash, while Clara makes a bold move in her bid to outplay Sir Edward and Esther.

Tensions between Tom and his labourers erupt during the Sanditon cricket match. Charlotte and Sidney continue to clash, resulting in Miss Lambe being placed in terrible danger, while Lord Babington offers Esther a glimpse of a better future.

As the Sanditon summer regatta approaches, Sidney wrestles with his feelings towards an old flame and Young Stringer reveals his feelings to Charlotte. With Lady Denham at deaths door, the tensions between Edward, Clara and Esther finally come to a head - with surprising consequences.

Charlotte returns to Sanditon in unexpected circumstances. A company of Army Officers descend on the town, offering romantic opportunities. Meanwhile, Georgiana meets an intriguing artist and Esther Babington has an unwanted encounter with her past.

Charlotte and Alexander Colbourne reach an understanding as she and Colonel Lennox enjoy a close encounter. Alison falls for her new beau. Clara seeks Esther’s help.

Lennox and Colbourne’s rivalry over Charlotte comes to a head. Georgiana makes a decision that will impact her future. Edward’s manipulation of Esther takes a dark turn as Alison realizes what she has been missing.

Charlotte arrive back at the Regency era seaside resort—fiancé in tow—for the society event of the year. Seeing Colbourne again leaves her feeling uncertain. Meanwhile, Georgiana receives a shocking threat to her fortune, and Edward tries to prove to Lady Denham that he is a changed man.

Georgiana gets a surprise visit. Colbourne’s shooting party goes ahead and Charlotte has to confront all that she’s lost. Mary and Tom cross swords over his plans for the old town.

Charlotte and Colbourne rush to Augusta’s aid and it’s revealed whether Edward really is a changed man or not. Tom secures a financial investment… but is delivered some devastating news. And whilst love blossoms elsewhere, Arthur’s heart is broken.
