A present day Western set in the environmentally delicate and politically volatile territory of southern Arizona. A young professional musician, Birdie, returns home to rest and contemplate her future, but finds she must negotiate old family conflicts and confront her own past first. She and her mother set out on horseback into the sensitive natural beauty of the high desert, expecting idyllic quality time while camping. The physical dangers and emotional surprises encountered in the mountains change their lives forever.
