A young, wisdom-seeking writer arrives at the home of the elderly poet Roderick Usher and his cataleptic sister, Madeline. As the writer becomes increasingly uncomfortable with Rodericks weirdness and Madelines growing decrepitude, the film moves toward its macabre conclusion with old-fashioned stateliness.
